Quick and effective executive search

Earth Tech is a global provider of engineering, consulting, construction and operations services for the water and wastewater, facilities and environmental markets. As a result of the continued expansion of the business, Earth Tech had an immediate requirement to recruit additional Planning Engineers to work on various projects across the UK. Earth Tech required permanent staff and approached Gold Group as a result of their specific expertise in sourcing planning staff.

It quickly became apparent that Earth Tech's requirements were highly specific in terms of the specific skill sets and market experience they were looking for. Because such candidates were unlikely to be on the open market, Gold Group identified Earth Tech's competitors and used head hunting techniques to directly approach and qualify candidates who were tempted by a potential career move. In addition to utilising head hunting techniques, Gold Group also exhausted various search criteria using their extensive database of registered Planning Engineers. The result was highly successful:

“The recruitment process was approached highly professionally and it delivered suitable candidates within a quick response time with four candidates interviewed and offered.”

Senior Planning Manager for concrete frame contractor

Gold Group was approached by the Senior Planning Manager of the UK's largest concrete frame specialist contractor to help find a Senior Project Planner to expand their Planning Team. From the outset, the assignment was likely to be a challenge given the highly specialist nature of the client’s work.

To try and short circuit the process, we started by identifying the client’s 3 main competitors, to see if there were any candidates who might be interested in moving to a competitive company. We targeted specific individuals in a very discreet way, but found no one prepared to move to such an obvious competitor in what is a very small and defined market.

This led us to advertise on specialist planning websites and job boards, as well as calling all the Senior Planners on our in-house database within a 66km radius of the client's office. This revealed a number of possible candidates, which we narrowed to a shortlist of 5 who fit the very specific requirements to put forward by the client. Three strong candidates were interviewed, following which the first choice candidate was offered the position and accepted.

Rapid response to a very tight brief

As a result of continued rapid expansion, Amey Rail (part of one of Europe’s most successful infrastructure and services companies) urgently needed to bring on board a Planning Engineer to provide the Project Team and Head Office with Planning, Co-ordination and Document Control in a variety of project environments. Having already approached a number of recruitment agencies, Amey Rail was finding it increasingly difficult to find the right person when they asked Gold Group for help.

We immediately understood the difficulty in sourcing an experienced Planning Engineer with such a highly specific skill set for this particular geographical location. Consequently, instead of relying on contingency recruitment. Gold Group took a different approach and directly approached candidates working for Amey Rail’s competitors in the correct market sectors. The search was discreet and targeted, and quickly attracted 8 strong candidates.

Having interviewed all 8, Gold Group short listed 4, but put forward only the best candidate to short circuit the process. We carefully checked that the candidate was moving for the right reasons and paid real attention to making sure that the exact fit was right. After 2 meetings, Amey Rail offered the candidate the job, which was accepted. Amey Rail was delighted with the speed and efficiency with which Gold Group identified and presented the right candidate first time round.
