Assembly Technician needed for a highly reputable and leading Defence organisation based in Bedford who are looking to employ a flexible and organised Assembly Technician that has previous experience in a manufacturing setting.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Assembly Technician will include:

  • Working within a vehicle assembly and test environment.
  • Responsible for the electrical, mechanical and hydraulic assembly and integration of complex systems. Works to specifications, procedures, schematics and engineering drawings.
  • Competent and safe use of hand and air tools, including knowledge of hand drill and Mag drilling techniques. Uses jigs, fixtures and measuring instruments on precision assemblies.
  • Inspects produced parts using various inspection and test methods. Uses a methodical and precise approach to ensure successful completion of production tasks. Liaises with engineering and design to improve manufacturing methods and procedures.
  • Mentors and trains others. Uses problem solving techniques to solve assembly and test problems.
  • Prioritises work load in order to meet deliverable commitment timelines. Experience of 6 S and lean manufacturing tools and techniques

What experience you need to be a successful Assembly Technician:

  • A comprehensive range of vehicle assembly testing (spall) with previous experience in similar roles.
  • Ability to complete set ups and perform quality and performance testing.
  • Ability to test results and work from written instructions with limited supervision.
  • Ability to use hand tools and measuring equipment with high accuracy.
  • Ability to liaise with the test support and engineering functions.
  • Attention to detail and ability to self-inspect work to ensure quality defects are mitigated.
  • Flexible to work overtime/modified/Non-standard shifts preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Complete understanding of "clean as you go"/6S/FOD/Tool control programs mandatory.
  • Experienced with quality inspection points and process documentation.
  • Either recognised apprenticeship in mechanical / electrical assembly / test or equivalent through work experience gained on the job.
  • A very high level of health and safety awareness.
  • Must be able to take direction well and is a strong team player.
  • Extreme attention to detail and continual pursuit of perfection.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high pressure situations.
  • Excellent organisational skills and problem-solving skills.
