Commercial Gas Engineer

Highly-qualified Commercial Gas Engineer needed with full industrial and commercial gas ticket for an Energy and Utilities organisation based in the Birmingham area. You will play a part developing large scale District Energy Schemes, across the breadth of Birmingham City Centre, and occasionally to support our District Energy Scheme in Coventry. The Birmingham District Energy Scheme has been in operation since 2007 is playing a pivotal role in partnership with Birmingham City Council, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 60% by 2027.

Expectations of the Commercial Gas Engineer role:

  • Carry out the defined planned maintenance regime for all contractual obligations.
  • Carry out repairs, reactive maintenance and minor installation works as instructed on plant.
  • Attend, diagnose and repair faults having due regard to customer care in this specific environment.
  • Complete the relevant paperwork and report diligently, through IT based Asset Management Applications.
  • Maintain all documentation and records to the highest standard.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in the preventative, remedial and statutory maintenance of Commercial boiler plant.
  • Experience of working on L/MTHW systems and steam systems.
  • Ensure jobs are closed down, PPM application, promptly to allow for timely invoicing.
  • Have an understanding of the contracts and charging structures.
  • Project a professional image of the company at all times to external and internal customers, this is to include clear channels of communication.
  • Operate at all times in accordance with Best Practice with regard to Equal Opportunities, recognise and value Diversity in the Workplace and demonstrate respect for others.
  • Place the highest importance upon Health and Safety policies and working practices / procedures.
  • Abide by our District Energy policies and procedures at all times.

Essential and Desirable skills for the Commercial Gas Engineer role:

  • A relevant technical qualification - must include commercial gas qualification and burner experience.
  • Knowledge of District Energy Schemes will be a distinct advantage.
  • Knowledge of water treatment systems and their controlled uses would offer a distinct advantage, as this role requires weekly water condition testing for cooling Towers.
  • Empirical skills in the remedial and statutory maintenance of Commercial boiler plant.
  • Experience of working on LTHW boiler systems and their statute maintenance regimes.
  • Fault-finding and practical skills.
  • Certified training to be provided to facilitate the use of Water Treatment programs / duties.
  • Knowledge and or AP11 qualification (PSSR), would offer a distinct advantage.
