Brief

My client are embarking on an exciting and growing range of long term national and international programmes and opportunities in a number of domains including Ground Based Air Defence; these all build upon and exploit the proven SkyKeeper BMC4i product and will form a robust and major business area on the site.

Due to the predicted growth, we need critical subject matter experts to underpin these developing business streams. These roles require high calibre, proven individuals with focused skills and experience in order to design, integrate and deliver real systems. the successful applicants will operate at the core of this expanding team driving technical direction and developing junior staff. These are challenging senior roles requiring talented individuals who will be correspondingly rewarded.

The Communication Solution Architect will act as the subject matter expert and technical authority for all aspects of RF Communications design and integration, reporting to the Chief Engineer. The Communication Solution Architect is part of the Systems Engineering team and is responsible for providing consultation and leading the development of solution architectures. The Communication Solution Architect will also provide company representation and mentoring for all RF Communications-related engineering matters.

The Communication Solution Architect will have specific and substantial experience in developing and integrating tactical communications solutions. Experience should relate to mission analysis, requirements development, system design, modelling and simulation, integration, verification test, acceptance and certification for both hardware and software aspects of communications systems.

The Communication Solution Architect will be required to support in-service communication system projects, SkyKeeper opportunities and align future SkyKeeper product development with future communications technology innervations.

Specifically, the Communication Solution Architect will:

• Undertake technical trade studies on communications technology options.
• Work with potential communications suppliers to understand the benefits, performance and growth paths for their product
• Understand the impact of the communications system(s) on overall system behaviour and performance
• Understand the impact of the communications system(s) on different solution architectures.
• Technically review and challenge communications suppliers on their products, reports and observed performance.
• Maintain currency on Communications developments and relevant standards
• Understand nuances of communications system limitations and behaviours at system level.
• Understand and develop at sub-system level, requirements and interface definition for any communications interfaces.
• Represent the company at industry and customer events

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Communication Solution Architect will include:

• Experience designing and integrating tactical/strategic RF data & voice communications networks into Land-based Command & Control systems.
• Experience of technologies across the spectrum from HF to Microwave and including MANET, Tactical 4G LTE and Satcom products.
• Experience in conducting technical trade studies on communications options.
• Understanding of current military waveforms and standards.
• Understand and Manage Cyber Security aspects of the communications design/solution.
• Understand the impact of the comms system(s) on the overall system behaviour and performance.
• Experience of managing sub-system requirements and ICD for a Communications system.
• Experience working with potential Communication System suppliers to understand the benefits, performance and growth paths for their products
• Knowledge of communications systems limitations and behaviours at system level.
• Knowledge of the integration of Integrate Software Defined Radio (SDR) technologies and their application in military systems.

What experience you need to be the successful Communication Solution Architect:

• Experience of Ground Based Air Defence Systems
• Experience of Battlefield Management C4i Systems
• Experience of Battlefield Communications Systems & Networks
• Experience in the Verification lifecycle
• Experience of systems engineering lifecycle through the life of a large-scale systems development programme, ideally in the Command & Control domain
• Development of Verification & Acceptance (V&A) statements
• Knowledge of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) using IBM Rational Rhapsody or similar
• Knowledge of IT Network fundamentals.
• Change proposal assessment and embodiment

Hybrid of working on site and from home roughly 50/50 split between on site and at home. Will have occasional requirement as needed to travel to customer sites, usually relatively minimal but will come up and be a requirement every now and then including the potential for occasional international travel.
