JOB TITLE: Director of Commercial Excellence

MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

As part of the Business Excellence Team, you will work with leadership teams, and functional representatives in our Commercial Functions, as required to: define, execute and lead investigations, analyses, projects and programmes. You will lay the foundations of upskilling by training and coaching, deliver, and/or support delivery of Lean / Six-Sigma projects or Kaizen events to enable the business to achieve its strategic goals. You will coordinate and manage team resources to achieve the organisation's and Business Excellence's objectives.

As the Business Excellence lead for Commercial Functions, you will work closely with Marketing, Sales and Customer Support leadership and teams to improve the performance of the business to towards delivering strong sustainable growth.

REPORTING LINE:

• Line Manager: Director of Business Excellence
• Strong requirement and emphasis in being able to work and deliver across all functions, with multiple stakeholders and differing requirements

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with functional/sector leadership teams to recommend application of the appropriate Lean / Six-Sigma methodologies to achieve the objectives set by the business and oversee and co-ordinate projects/kaizen events and the required resources.
• Directly line manage a team of (initially 2, but potentially larger) Lean / Six-Sigma professionals to support their impact on the business and advance their own professional development.
• Lead delivery of strategic Lean / Six-Sigma projects to achieve financial targets e.g., cost reduction, revenue increase etc
• Collaborate with Operations Excellence, R&D Excellence and Quality teams to deliver end to end support for Business Excellence deployment and improving processes, fixing customer quality issues as required throughout the business.
• Create and develop the Lean / Six-Sigma training portfolio, training material, tools, and gate review processes, and improve on an ongoing basis for commercial and transactional process environments
• Deliver and coordinate the delivery of all Lean / Six-Sigma training and certification, training of the trainers, as required for commercial functions.
• Identify candidates within the commercial functions who can develop Business Excellence and Spectris Business System skills (e.g., Yellow, Green, Black Belt programme, coach and certify to the DMAIC methodology or other Lean / Six-Sigma tools and techniques.)
• Ensure projects and benefits are tracked, captured, and correctly reported to the appropriate bodies.

IMPACT:

• Measurable business impact of £4-6M business benefits (Revenue, GP, Cost reduction and/or avoidance) delivered through Business Excellence projects (either led directly personally, through the team and wider deployment into Commercial Business).
• Projects, events, training delivered on time to plan to meet the MP Commercial tactical and strategic goals.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

For analysis, action plans, training/upskilling, kaizen events, project delivery.

ENVIRONMENT AND HOURS:

• Based at Malvern (UK) or Almelo (Netherlands) or potentially home based. Contractual hours 37.5 per week.
• Within the rules of the flexi-time scheme / this role is exempt from the rules of the flexi-time scheme. Overtime unpaid / overtime paid

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED OF THE JOB HOLDER:

Entry Qualifications

• Certified Lean / Six Sigma Black or Master Black Belt (DMAIC / DfSS)
• Engineering / Business Degree qualified or with a proven change management / continuous improvement track record

Skills & Experience

Min 5+ years' experience of change management, project / programme management and teaching using lean and six sigma tools

Of which at 2+ years' experience should be applying Lean / Six-Sigma within Sales and Marketing functions, and/or able to demonstrate 4+ years' experience in Sales and Marketing management roles
