Electronics Technician

Cambridge

Electronics Technician needed for a globally recognised defence organisation based in Cambridge who are looking to employ an experienced Electronics Engineer with extensive expirience in electrical wiring and crimping, using test equipment, PCB soldering, enviromental testing and the defence industry.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Electronics Technician will include:

  • Assemble test and repair prototype electronic and mechanical equipment. To set up and maintain the ground floor area at Cambridge such that it can be used by development engineers
  • Ensure that tools and identified components are available at all times
  • Maintain the equipment and tools in the workshop in good condition. Check and maintain a record of tools and equipment in the labs
  • Ensure that ESD areas are set up and monitored in accordance with the Work Instruction
  • Work with the and Facilities Manager to ensure the ground floor areas are Safe and in accordance with requirements
  • Maintain the equipment calibration database and send out equipment for calibration as required
  • Act as the main point of contact for Goods In and shipments to and from Cambridge
  • To support the Engineering Design teams during hardware development, supporting build, test apparatus and maintain oversight of the laboratory use.

There may be additional activities to perform from time to time in order to maximise the contribution to the company's goals and objectives

What you need to be the successful Electronics Technician:

In order to be the successful Electronics Technician and have a chance to gain such an exciting opportunity you will ideally need to have the following:

  • Tidy and organized
  • Methodical, with good control of time
  • Takes ownership of tasks assigned to them
  • Experience in using test equipment (signal generators, oscilloscopes, multi- meters, logic analysers)
  • Experience of using workshop machinery (upright drills, lathes, cutting tools, heavy handling equipment)
  • Experience of environmental testing (temperature & vibration)
  • Experience in prototype PWB soldering (including SMD), and general hands on technical build
  • Experience in electrical wiring and crimping
  • Understanding of electrical measurements
  • Able to perform tests according to procedures
  • Microsoft Office/Windows literacy

Desirable skills and expririence include:

  • Be familiar with electronic and mechanical components market and suppliers
  • Technical report writing skills
  • LabVIEW/TestStand knowledge
  • Analytical, with fault-finding skills
  • Be familiar with the manufacturing techniques used for aerospace electronics
