Human Factors Engineer
Permanent 4 day week.
Hybrid working from Gloucester, Havant or Yeovil base locations.

SC Clearance required due to Military nature of the work - you can start on BPSS while SC is processed.

You will primarily be home based with occasional travel to the nearest office and customer sites in the South West. Whilst experience in defence or aerospace is desirable, this role would suit a skilled and motivated Human Factors professional, with experience in HF methodologies supporting the development of products and applying standards in a design environment.

The working pattern on this role is based on a 4 day week with every Friday off !

You will work in an existing small Human Factors team within the engineering team. In addition to working on existing programmes, you will also support the future capabilities, business growth opportunities, and bids and proposals - this will provide you the opportunity to shape and lead future Human Factors programmes.

Experience / Background required:

Applying human performance principles, methodologies and technologies to the design of human-machine systems, products and workstations
Proposing, evaluating and refining own user interface designs
Working with other engineering disciplines to ensure human factors principles are adopted throughout design, and that human-machine interfaces are optimal
Conducting User and Human Factors Working Groups, user trials & evaluations and contributing to technical meetings with customers and suppliers
Managing the User Centred Design process on assigned programmes
Producing Human Factors Integration Plans, HF strategies and cost estimates for bids and proposals
Deriving HF requirements and translating business/programme requirements into appropriate technical specifications
Reviewing and advising on system test plans and acceptance test documentation
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with clients and suppliers across all levels of the organisation both internally and with the customer

Required skills, qualifications and experience.

Bachelor's degree in a related subject (e.g Human Factors, Ergonomics, Product Design, Psychology) and proven experience in a Human Factors role.
Experience in user interface design, definition and evaluation
Application of design standards to the development of products, systems and/or services
Use of human factors methodologies, within a consultative, engineering, defence or product design environment.
Ability to analyse complex technical problems and provide pragmatic solutions
Strong communication skills, and the ability to write in a clear and concise manner
Positive attitude, and willingness to get involved with tasks across the programme lifecycle
The ability to manage tasks and priorities to ensure that assigned workload is delivered when required.
Ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences on sometimes complex issues, topics and engineering principles and practices.
