Infrastructure & Automation Engineer

I am recruiting for an Infrastructure & Automation Engineer for my client based in Cheltenham who provides web based software tools within the financial services market place.

As an Infrastructure & Automation Engineer you will support the IT Infrastructure and apply Automation/DevOps skills to further innovate and develop in a busy service delivery focused environment.

The successful applicant will have experience in supporting IT Infrastructure in addition to Windows and Linux infrastructure design, administration and automation. Some experience in cloud infrastructure and containerisation is also highly desirable.

Infrastructure & Automation Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Lead / support IT automation initiatives
  • Provide 3rd line infrastructure support to the business
  • Work to deliver Infrastructure as code
  • Solve business problems using innovative IT solutions
  • Support the management of the SAAS platform deployment tools to ensure they are scalable and failure proof
  • Support of the business SAAS platform environments and technologies
  • Assist and Support business initiatives using cloud infrastructure
  • Support efforts to maintain production uptime SLA
  • Mentor other IT Operations engineers

Infrastructure & Automation Engineer Essential Skills:

  • Configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft-based production systems
  • Experience of operating virtual environments (ideally VMWare)

Experience of supporting and configuring datacenter technologies such as:

  • Firewalls and firewall policies
  • Physical Server administration
  • Networking
  • SAN and NAS storage configuration
  • 1 to 2 years of scripting skills with PowerShell
  • Experience of using technologies for infrastructure automation and application delivery
  • Experience of working with Linux based Systems

Infrastructure & Automation Engineer Desirable Skills:

Knowledge of the following tools and technologies:

  • Git (or another code repository e.g. SVN, Bitbucket, TFS)
  • CI/CD implementation with VSTS/ Octopus Deploy (or other CI/CD tools e.g. TeamCity/Jenkins)
  • Windows Server (2012/2016/2019)
  • IIS7/8
  • SQL Server 2016
  • Knowledge of Infrastructure automation technologies such as Ansible or Windows DSC
  • Knowledge of provisioning, configuring and deploying .net applications
  • Cloud technology exposure, preferably AWS
  • Knowledge of containerization using Docker
  • Experience of documenting processes and user guides
  • Configuration and management of monitoring and logging tools
  • Working with Agile development methodology
  • Patching and Security Remediation
