Linux Engineer - Amsterdam
The role is responsible for installing and managing Unix/Linux open-source operating systems and catering to the client's needs in this environment. I am looking for an adaptive engineer with breadth over several technologies in the Unix/Linux domain.
Linux Engineer responsibilities:
- Install, configure, manage, maintain, and troubleshoot on-premises and/or cloud-based Unix/Linux open-source operating systems
- Resolve user issues, address change management requests, and identifies potential issues by implementing protective measures
- Help define, collect, and report on service quality metrics to drive continuous improvement
- Work across teams to optimize reliability, performance, latency, and efficiency for the hosted services
- Provide monitoring recommendations for systems under ownership
- Make sure that systems are built to required security standards
- Follow industry trends and maintain a strong interest in emerging technologies and best practices
Your skills:
- Excellent Unix/Linux OS knowledge including installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance
- Good working knowledge of set up configurations for network, database, and high availability services, besides designing and developing OS system configurations for software packages
- Good working knowledge of automating standardized steps, tech operations
- Good working knowledge of troubleshooting for Linux-based servers use troubleshooting procedures and technical information to identify severity of incidents
- Good working knowledge of configuring Unix/Linux operating systems for optimal performance including performance tuning
- Good working knowledge of usual Unix/Linux OS processes such as backup and recovery, migrations and upgrades, replication, clustering and high availability, troubleshooting, security, and auditing
- Good working knowledge of Ansible, Puppet, NGINX and automation technologies
- Good working knowledge of Shell or Bash scripting
Advantageous skills:
- Linux administration certificate from Red Hat, CompTIA, GIAC, ORACLA, LPI
- Certification by Microsoft, AWS or Google for cloud Unix/ Linux machine administration
- Good working knowledge in one of the languages, such as Python, Ruby, and Perl
- Knowledge of cloud computing and opens source application suites, such as WordPress or Drupal
- Knowledge in virtualization, cloud computing, and database, among others
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery
- Public exposure (articles, talks, workshops)
