Design Engineer
Portsmouth
The Small Boats team support the Royal Navy, RFA, Police, Army and Special Forces. They deal with all issues ranging from refit, redesign, obsolescence and mid-life updates on their in-service boats. They are a small team of 6 experienced Design Engineers that are pro-active and re-active to the support needs of our customer.
We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements within this Design Engineer Role.
The Design Engineer is eligible for up to £47,940 dependant on experience.
What the role entails:
- Design Engineer will be working on in-service boats from re-fit to delivery
- Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings, for a wide range of products from small components to whole vessel systems. Produce drawings in accordance with BS8888 Engineering Drawing standards.
- Carry out small craft systems and marine engineer design tasks.
- Implement design changes and provide post-delivery support and resolve obsolescence issues.
- Drafting, vetting and editing technical reports or other documents relevant to, or required by, a particular task in order to ensure that technical findings can be successfully communicated with recipients
What experience you need to be a successful Design Engineer:
- Experience of Engineering material selection and use in a Marine Environment, particularly according to British Standards/Euronorms/Classification Society standards and Defence Standards
- Experienced in 3D modelling, ideally using Siemens NX, and 2D drafting (Autocad or similar) for production and manufacturing
- BEng degree level or HND/HNC or relevant working experience in Marine Engineering, Small Craft Design, Marine Technology or Mechanical
Desirable:
- Knowledge of Small Craft systems design including electrical, fuel, bilge etc
- Knowledge and understanding of Naval Architecture
