Mechanical Design Engineer

Brief
Mechanical Design Engineer needed for an industry recognised Aerospace organisation based in Bedfordshire who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Mechanical Design Engineer that takes pride in their work with demonstrable knowledge of GD&T, FEA, DFMEA and stress calculation and highly CAD proficient (ideally Catia V5).
What the role entails:
Some of the main duties of the Mechanical Design Engineer will include:
- As Mechanical Design Engineer you will be a technical authority and mentor
- Produce 3D and 2D CAD of parts and assemblies using Catia V5
- Reporting using FEA, FMEA, design calculations and part certification
- Support manufacture of wind tunnel test subject components, sub-assemblies and associated rigs
- Complete load and stress calculations leading to taking responsibility for part and material spec
- Design for manufacture (inc. 5-axis machining, instrumentation and sensor requirements)
- Contribute to and on occasion lead project launch, design review and project wash-up meetings
- Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives
- Observe company Quality Standards and Health and Safety procedures
- Regular communication with team members, suppliers, customers and other internal departments

What experience you need to be the successful Mechanical Design Engineer:
Essential:
- The individual must be highly technical
- Demonstrable knowledge of GD&T, FEA, DFMEA and stress calculation
- Able to work individually and as part of a team keeping projects within budget and to project schedule
- Qualification in related Mechanical Engineering or technical discipline. Degree preferred
- Minimum of 5 years' relevant experience
- Highly CAD proficient
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of supporting and developing less experienced engineers as well as supporting supervisors and line management
- Ability to prioritise and work under pressure
- Flexible to a changing work load
- Problem solver able to develop and implement workaround solutions
- Proficiency in Microsoft office software
- Organised, self-starting and innovative in seeking improvement in both product and process
- Committed to self-improvement and receptive to new ideas and ways of working
Desirable:
- Aerospace or aerodynamic application experience
- A R&D/testing background
- Experience of project management tools and methodologies
- Familiarity of 6 Sigma specifically experience of 5S and LEAN manufacturing principals
- Knowledge of MRP systems
- Knowledge of high-speed aerodynamic testing
- Catia V5
