We are seeking a Network Engineer to join a leading rail communications and technology organisation who operate within various industry sectors including Transport, Emergency Services, Network Providers, Higher Education and Public Sector. As a Network Engineer you will be responsible for providing a 1st / 2nd Line Support service that ensures all IT equipment and infrastructure is running to its optimum performance.
It is desirable for the successful candidate to have a relevant Degree in IT, or another relevant discipline, and have a keen interest in being a Network Engineer. If you have previous experience as a Network Engineer that would be a plus!
Role Responsibilities
Some of the main duties of the Network Engineer will include:
- Configuration and replacement of datacentre equipment such as Cisco and Juniper firewalls, Cisco switches, Cisco and Dell server hosts whilst maintaining system operation.
- Perform scheduled maintenance tasks.
- Address TPCMS issues either by resolving the issue, or assigning to internal staff (engineers) or external providers (such as suppliers of equipment) to resolution.
- Support the transition of the TPCMS service to other parties by supporting the development and training needs of individuals.
- Configuration and replacement of Rail Operating Centre operations floor equipment such as workstations, turrets and phones.
What experience you need to be the successful Network Engineer:
- Educated to Degree level in IT (or another relevant discipline)
- A background in Networking - LAN / WAN
- Holds a detailed understanding of core internet technologies - Routing and Switching, DNS, OSI Model.
- Vendor certification of the following would be beneficial: VMware, MS Windows System Support, Cisco knowledge - LAN / WAN, Juniper, IP Trade.
