Safety Consultant - Nuclear

Bristol or Glasgow
£45,000 - £65,000 + full benefits package.

Our client manages and delivers large frameworks and programmes that make a real difference in the world. This Safety Consultant role is in the team that provides support to existing and future civil nuclear fleet and leads the engagement with these important clients.

Working within the Nuclear Safety team, you will be able to work on a wide variety of projects that ensure the continued safe operation and longevity of existing nuclear assets. You will get involved in the full design life-cycle of projects, providing nuclear safety advice and developing practical solutions to engineering problems for clients across the UK. By joining a growing business, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the success by developing long term relationships with many clients in the nuclear industry.

The role requires that you provide nuclear safety engineering advice to the design, operation and defueling of nuclear facilities. In addition, this will involve the development and production of nuclear safety documentation to ensure that licensees satisfy their nuclear site licence conditions. As part of this, it will be necessary to liaise and work with operators, designers, key SQEPs, other customers, and collesgues that are technical experts, building strong working relationships.

Another key aspect of the role will involve working on bids and proposals to generate and deliver business with new and existing clients; therefore good commercial experience is a highly desirable skill.

  • Hazard / fault identification / HAZOP, FMEA; FTA
  • Deterministic Safety Assessment
  • External Hazard Assessment
  • Structural Integrity Safety Case
  • Probabilistic Safety Assessment
  • Safety Case Preparation (EC, PoP, JCO, PCSR, etc.)
  • EC production (Cat 1 and 2)
  • Engineering Substantiation
  • Fault Studies
  • Design Authority / Engineering Technical Reports and Advice Notes
  • Nuclear Safety Legislation, Regulation and Policy
  • NSA/ISA
  • AGR, PWR and BWR Technical Specifications and Procedures


Requirements

The successful applicant will meet the following minimum requirements:

  • hold a good degree in a Science, Technology or Engineering discipline;
  • have a minimum of a couple of years of relevant industry experience
  • be enthusiastic about their ongoing professional development, for example by being at Chartered status or working towards chartership;
  • be a confident communicator, able to interact with clients, colleagues and stakeholders at all levels;
  • be motivated and driven to accept responsibility for delivery to meet time, cost and quality objectives;
  • able to be both a team player and leader;
  • commercially aware

It is to your advantage if you meet any or all the following additional requirements:

  • be able to demonstrate application of good engineering judgement and extensive experience using fundamental engineering (or other STEM) skills;
  • have a proven track record of delivering technically challenging projects;
  • demonstrate a strong background in nuclear safety assurance and hazard analysis or a desire to develop these skills from a sound basis be able to produce and review technical reports that are of a high quality
