This is an excellent opportunity for a contractor who enjoys working on technically challenging projects, taking ownership of power electronics development and working closely with customers, suppliers and wider engineering teams.

The Role

As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will take responsibility for the design, development, testing and technical support of power electronic systems from initial concept through to production.

You will provide specialist technical expertise across multiple projects, helping to develop efficient, reliable and cost-effective power conversion solutions that meet demanding customer, regulatory and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mentor and support less experienced engineers, contributing to the development of technical capability within the team.
  • Represent the organisation at technical reviews, customer meetings and programme discussions.
  • Investigate and resolve design issues identified during development, manufacture and field operation.
  • Lead root-cause investigations and implement effective corrective and preventative actions.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
  • Significant experience designing electronic systems within a high-reliability, safety-critical or regulated engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of power conversion topologies.

  • Experience leading technical activities and influencing engineering design decisions.
  • Experience with communication protocols such as RS485, SPI, I²C, CAN or similar.
  • Strong understanding of component selection, derating, reliability and component lifecycle considerations.
  • Experience producing and reviewing schematics and technical documentation.
  • Good understanding of PCB design principles, layout supervision and design-for-manufacture.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work confidently with customers, suppliers and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative and capable of taking ownership of technical delivery within a fast-paced engineering environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Digital circuit design experience.
  • Wiring definition and harness design experience.
  • Experience using Altium Designer.
  • Previous experience working within defence, aerospace or another highly regulated industry.
  • Experience working with high-integrity or safety-critical electronic systems.
  • Experience supporting products through qualification, production and in-service operation.
