The Role:
So, what will you be doing as a Power Systems Test Engineer?
- Lead hands-on testing of power electronics and electrical systems, ensuring performance aligns with specifications and safety standards.
- Develop and execute test plans, including functional and performance testing for power converters, motor drives, and related systems.
- Use lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multi-meters, power analyzers, signal generators) to perform precise measurements and validate system performance.
- Conduct electrical testing on both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, identifying issues and ensuring operational safety under various conditions.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose system faults, resolving technical issues to optimize system performance.
- Assist in the integration of power electronics into larger systems, testing for compatibility and performance with other components.
- Collaborate with engineers to validate designs and provide input for product improvements based on test outcomes.
- Set up and maintain test rigs, ensuring accuracy and safety in all testing operations.
- Manage the test lab environment, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and ready for use.
- Ensure testing procedures adhere to relevant health and safety protocols, especially when handling high-voltage systems.
- Prepare comprehensive test reports, documenting procedures, outcomes, and identified issues.
- Produce technical documentation outlining test results, troubleshooting steps, and recommendations for system improvements.
- Communicate findings with internal teams and customers, providing clear recommendations for adjustments and enhancements.
- Provide technical support during customer-facing activities, including field testing and installations.
- Assist customers with troubleshooting, offering hands-on solutions and advice.
What are we looking for in our next Power Systems Test Engineer?
- HND, Bachelor's, or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, Electronics Engineering, or related field, with a focus on electrical testing and electronics systems.
- Proven experience in power electronics testing, fault finding, and lab-based testing of power converters, motor drives, or other complex electronic systems.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, and power analyzers.
- Familiarity with electrical testing on both low-voltage and high-voltage systems, including diagnostics and fault resolution.
- Strong knowledge of power electronics, electrical systems, and converter topologies.
- Expertise in electrical testing, data interpretation, troubleshooting, and suggesting corrective actions.
- Experience developing and executing test plans, with the ability to analyze data and draw actionable insights.
- Proficiency in fault-finding and problem-solving in a lab environment.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to produce detailed reports and collaborate with engineering teams.
- Hands-on experience integrating power electronics into larger systems and testing under real-world conditions.
- Familiarity with safety protocols in lab environments, particularly when working with high-voltage and high-power equipment.
- Proficiency with simulation tools to validate designs before physical testing.
