Pre-Construction Manager needed for a leading construction organisation based in Leicestershire who are looking to employ an experienced Pre-Construction Manager to work in partnership with the Divisional Director and Business Development Manager to identify and secure suitable work opportunities, while maintaining and growing the clients work streams by nurturing and developing ongoing long-term relationships with key clients, professionals and supply chains.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Pre-Construction Manager will include:

  • Aid in the establishment and the delivery of objectives and targets in the Annual Business Unit Business Plan
  • By working closely with the Business Development Manager, identify and secure work opportunities from the open market, PQQ and frameworks
  • Directly supervise the estimations team, bid manager and estimators while coordinating with the design managers, planners, M&E, project staff and proposals
  • Develop and maintain strong personal relationships with clients, consultants, supply chain and staff
  • Assist in the management and completion of "Expressions of Interest", prequalification's and Questionnaires
  • Partake in management reviews of workload and opportunities
  • Plan, allocate and manage resources both internally and externally to process successful bids
  • Manage, direct and set win strategies for any necessary bids
  • Lead the bid strategy process, review and settlement meetings
  • Ensure that estimator costs are validated
  • Compile and maintain budget costs for any tenders and bids
  • Maintain financial records of completed bids to allow competitive and winning market levels to be monitored
  • Provide innovative thinking to differentiate bids from the competition
  • Allocate clear roles and responsibilities to each member of the bid team
  • Allocate and retain the role of bid manager for each bid opportunity
  • Play a pivotal role in the bid submission process, including but not limited to the coordination, writing and reviewing process involved in the work of others and identification of any key differentiators
  • Preparation of management reports and key performance indicator (KPI) statistics and submission to regional and national reports
  • Ensure a consistent approach and drive forward continued improvement in all the client's bids, both commercial and quality submissions
  • Obtain and analyse customer feedback on the client's performance
  • Ensure total compliance with all company system processes and procedures
  • Support in the development and training of staff within the team, including annual appraisals
  • Support the regions relationship management plans across all levels

What you need to be the successful Pre-Construction Manager:

In order to be the successful Pre-Construction Manager and have a chance to gain such an exciting opportunity you will ideally need to have the following:

  • Preferably educated to degree level
  • Proficient user of: Adobe Writer, Adobe Photoshop, MS Office suite, Salesforce and Prezi
  • Knowledge of, but ideally skilled in the use of document presentation software, preferably 'Adobe In-Design'
  • Strong relationships with the clients and consultants operating within the East Midlands region
  • Strong team management and leadership skills
  • Dynamic, enthusiastic and capable of inspiring a team to win
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines - sometimes outside normal office hours
  • Excellent planning and time management skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
  • Ability to communicate with a range of people at all levels, both verbally and in writing
  • Customer focused in order to build productive relationships
  • Ability to make reasoned and informed judgements and decisions
  • Ability to make decisive and occasionally difficult decisions

  • Experience of producing high quality bid documents and promotional/sales material in the building contracting sector
  • Knowledge and understanding of the bid process, from pre-tender (PQQ), through tendering and into construction
  • To come from either a Contracting or Consultant background
  • A previous position within a Clients organisation would also be considered where appropriate
  • To have the technical and business knowledge necessary to respond to Questionnaires and Prequalification documents
