Principal Development Management Planner

Salary: £39,000 - £46,000 or Contract: £42 per hour


Principal development management planner required for a national organisation based in Norfolk who are looking to employ an experienced principal development management planner with experience in the council industry or related field as a development manager.

The successful principal development management planner will want to work for this client not just for the exciting opportunity but also for the great benefits that are included ranging from:

What the role involves:

Some of the main duties of the principal development management planner will include:

  • Managing a team including Senior and Assistant Planners, Historic Buildings Consultant providing training, managing and improving their outputs
  • Representing for the Head of Development Management
  • Guaranteeing that all team requests are determined within the required timescale
  • Ensuring that all team unresolved applications have an appropriate delay of time agreed in writing with the applicant or agent
  • Providing consistent team reports to the Head of Development Management Team
  • Managing a caseload of all types of application including major applications
  • Providing timely, comprehensive and accurate reports and recommendations on planning applications to meet relevant targets
  • Providing advice and support to the Enforcement Team on planning enforcement matters if required
  • Managing the Planning Committee Process with the administration assistant and Head of Development Management
  • Providing advice on planning matters to Members of the Council, the public, and others as necessary
  • To keep up to date with current legislation and policy changes, including CPD requirements
  • Experience in dealing with large scale planning applications

Principal Development Management Planner key skills and experience:

In order to be the successful principal development management planner and be a part of this great opportunity you'll need to have the following:

  • Substantial post qualification experience in development management ideally in a private and public-sector environment
  • A demonstrable ability to identify and realise commercial trading opportunities
  • An ability to make site visits together with a driving licence
  • A degree qualification in Town and Country Planning or equivalent experience
  • Member of the Royal Town Planning Institute and up to date CPD
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to consider a wide range of complex issues
  • Make a clear and reasoned judgement
  • Good analytical skills to be able to challenge evidence submitted in connection with land use planning matters
