Principal Systems Engineer needed for a multinational aerospace and defence organisation based in Hampshire.
The successful candidate would have previous experience working within a principal or senior role and desirably be educated to degree level or have equivalent professional experience.

As a Principal Systems Engineer, you will be reporting to the System Design Authority in the Innovation Labs Engineering Team, which is an incubator for new technological developments within the Business Unit taking products from concept through to preliminary design. You will be responsible for applying your broad-based systems support and thinking to resolve problems on a number of emerging products through to development.

What the Principal Systems Engineer role entails:
Some of the main duties of the Principal Systems Engineer will include:

* Identify and lead Systems Engineering activities across the engineering lifecycle.
* Apply system thinking and creative methods to resolve problems for a range of products and services working independently or working with domain experts.
* Lead system design (requirements and concept development) of a cyber-physical product within Engineering and Digital Services.
* Create a coherent system model using Model Based System Engineering (MBSE) tools, processes and techniques.
* Independently produce relevant system engineering artefacts (requirement specifications, engineering management plans)
* Provide Systems Engineering Support to Project bids and improvement initiatives
* Define and manage system acceptance, including verification and validation strategies with a focus on achieving system certification and acceptance.
* Champion the application of system engineering principals, tools and techniques across the business.
* Support the development of skill and competencies of junior systems engineering to ensure technical capabilities are maintained.
* Support the development and maintenance of relevant safety cases.
* Provide effective process and technical leadership

What experience you need to be the successful Principal Systems Engineer:

* Have a clear 'systems thinker' approach capable of applying holistic thinking to all problems
* Detailed knowledge of systems engineering processes across all stages of the systems engineering lifecycle
* Ability to apply appropriate tools and techniques to a product design environment for complex military platforms and systems.
* A strong grasp of technical process design and cross business integration
* Knowledge of product safety and SHE.
* Relevant STEM Honours Degree or equivalent
* Chartered or equivalent with an institute aligned with the UK Engineering Council
* Qualified or working towards INCOSE status or equivalent
