Brief
Product Development Engineer needed for a leading defence & security organisation based in the Newport area who are looking to employ a number of experienced and well-rounded Product Development Engineer that takes pride in their work.
In order to be eligible for this role you will need to undergo Security Clearance Background Checks that require you to be a UK resident and UK passport holder.
The successful Product Development Engineer would desirably be educated to degree level, or equivalent professional/vocational qualification. As Product Development Engineers, you will be involved with the development of products during all levels of the product lifecycle, concepts, development, testing, qualification, production and in service support. You will get to engage with all the different engineering disciplines, as well as gain a wealth of experience in this area. You will also get to see the full life cycle of projects, working from concept through to qualification and then going in to service.
This position currently operates a 37-hour week Monday - Thursday. On top of this flexible working from home will be available depending on project requirements.
What the role of the Product Development Engineer entails:
Some of the main duties of the Product Development Engineer will include:
- Conducting and managing product and process design, development, test, and evaluation activities for products
- Conducting and managing trials in a safe and suitable manner, from planning through to trials execution to reporting and presenting conclusions
- Configuration and maintenance of Engineering Bills of Materials for products
- Product design and evaluation / down selection e.g., Pugh Matrices, Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA)
- Coordinating of theoretical simulations e.g. (thermal, structural, fluids and aerodynamics)
- Development and use of Safe Systems of Work
- Management of suppliers, both internal and external, to ensure that development and manufacturing activities are completed to time, quality, and schedule
- Life Cycle Management (contributing towards design reviews) from concept to disposal
- Working as part of an integrated project team, including regular engagement with project management, procurement (supply chain) and operations
- Continuous Improvement activities
What experience you need to be the successful Product Development Engineer:
Essential skills:
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent BTEC (HNC/HND) qualification in a technically based discipline (mechanical/chemical or equivalent) supported by complementary experience
- Experience in Product design and/or test and evaluation
- A good understanding of manufacturing techniques and assembly processes
- Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and models
Desirable skills:
- Knowledge of munitions design and manufacture
- Chartered status or working towards Chartership in a relevant institute
- Experience and knowledge of manufacturing in a high hazard environment
- A good understanding of Systems Engineering and Engineering design processes and toolsets
