North West Wigan

Project Manager needed for a leading construction organisation based in North West Wigan who are looking to employ an experienced Project Manager to initially be based in the Highways England contract on Area 13, providing valuable work on improvements to roads, bridges and other structures on the trunk road network.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Project Manager will include:

  • Allocation of resources and the management of staff on site, while being certain to ensure proactive delegation of tasks including but not restricted to quality checks and setting out to team members
  • Manage timekeeping effectively to allow for methodology in the selection, preparation and completion of method statements, risk and COSHH assessments as well as permits to work
  • Report to the Contracts and Project managers on a monthly basis regarding project cost, value and progress against schedule
  • Maintain strict safe systems of work and compliance with company health and safety policies
  • Maintain the Project Management Pan
  • Own and promote the project compliancy with the specification and the company policies for quality, health, safety, environmental and sustainability issues
  • Build and develop a network of relations with suppliers and sub-contractors for the benefit of the project and any future contracts
  • Build and develop client relationships to ensure a successful end outcome on completion and to continually develop opportunities for future opportunities
  • Encourage a creative team culture in which motivation and morale is high, earning the respect of team members to ensure a committed and responsible work force
  • Communicate at all levels regarding the progress of the project
  • Maintain and manage staff recruitment, appraisals and proactively mentor engineers, foremen, sub agents and agents
  • Sign off requisitions for plant materials and subcontractors within tender guidelines
  • Ensure customer care for all stakeholders involved in a project, promoting a positive image of the client name
  • Ensure a transparent financial overview of the project in terms of tender allowance, variances between actual and tender costs, preparation of cost to complete forecasts with the QS team, review of these preparations and price variations, demonstrate an ability to use financial feedback information to refine and develop methods and resources where both practical and possible
  • Manage temporary works planning and complete checks and lift plans in accordance with the client's company procedures
  • Carry out safety inspections and control the induction processes
  • Produce Benefit Realisation capture forms and knowledge transfer packs when applicable for Highways England schemes
  • Provide support to the team during tender processes by involvement in preparation of programmes, methodology and development of quality, safety and environmental plans
  • Develop, manage and maintain the construction programme
  • Produce monthly progress reports for client meetings

What you need to be the successful Project Manager:

In order to be the successful Project Manager and have a chance to gain such an exciting opportunity you will ideally need to have the following:

  • CITB Level 3 Safety Course SMSTS (5 day)
  • Appropriate CSCS card
  • Chartered status or approaching
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Comprehensive knowledge of NEC Conditions of Contract, and implementing contract processes
  • First Aid at Work
  • CPD evidence of relevant post graduate practical training
  • Behavioural safety training (Desirable)
  • Training in Lean principles
  • Has held a similar position with a Civil Engineering Contractor for a prolonged period
  • Experience of working within the highways sector
  • Experience in earthworks, piling, steel structures, in-situ concrete, retaining walls, bridges, temporary works
  • Proven experience from engineering background demonstrating progress through Engineer and Site Agent to Project Manager
  • Strong practical knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
  • Experienced in supervision of other engineers and sub-agents
  • Knowledge of BIM
  • Extensive knowledge of programme planning sequencing and updating
  • Specification for Highway works
  • Enthusiastic, confident, personable, reliable and resourceful
  • Excellent timekeeping ability
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Relevant and strong practical knowledge
  • High level of attentiveness to detail
  • Capable of working collaboratively
  • Good decision maker
