Senior HSEQ Advisor (Health, Safety, Environment and Quality)

Senior HSEQ Advisor role summary:

To provide support to their appropriate business units in all matters HSEQ, line manage HSEQ Advisor support and deputise for the HSEQ Manager whenever required

To provide professional advice and support on all Health, Safety Environmental and Quality matters to all levels of employees within the business in order to meet legal responsibilities and to promote best practice.

To monitor compliance in line with Health Safety Quality and Environmental legislation and Business Assurance procedures.

The Senior HSEQ Advisor will be required to:

  • Assist and deputise for the HSEQ manager in setting operational team safety objectives and assisting operational teams in achieving the Company HSEQ objectives.
  • Write new processes, procedures and systems of work whenever required
  • Review or carry out risk assessments of work activities whenever required
  • Undertake inspections at the frequency identified within their HSEQ objectives.
  • Ensure training is provided for all levels of employees in relation to Health, Safety Environment and Quality.
  • Promote a consistent approach to Health, Safety Environmental and Quality issues across the business.
  • Promote Best Practice and a pro-active approach
  • Assist the HSEQ manager to achieve successful compliance to the accredited standards 14001/18001/9001 etc; and to conduct internal audits in order to meet these objectives.
  • Pro-actively support contracts in order to achieve all HSEQ objectives;
  • Evaluate and contribute to improvements and help update the relevant HSEQ management systems to ensure they are robust for compliance purposes, whilst reflecting real practices and decisions required for management control.
  • Carry out audits as part of the internal programme in accordance with LRQA/Achilles and other requirements.
  • Assess the contents of HSEQ Advisor's inspection reports for accuracy and quality; where appropriate discuss with HSEQ Advisors and set targets for improvements
  • Ensure appropriate trend analysis for accidents, incidents, site inspections and Think 2020 submissions is maintained for each contract and provide monthly contract summary report to the HSEQ Manager.
  • Monitor CAT downloads ensuring team's data is downloaded monthly and performance is briefed back to each team by the HSEQ Advisors and Supervisors;
  • Support and liaise, where appropriate, in helping close out actions from audit on HSEQ issues;
  • Responsible for resolving problems raised by operational managers and directors related to HSEQ

The Senior HSEQ Advisor will be responsible for:

  • Dealing with regulatory authorities/ auditors/customers wherever the need arises for such things as regulatory auditing, HSE compliance issues, customer auditing or technical support
  • Work closely with any/all Alliance Partners and Clients and develop strong relationships with key HSEQ individuals ensuring clients are adhering to HS, environmental and Quality standards where Company employees are required to work
  • Providing practical support and advice on HSEQ compliance to managers within their support area(s)
  • Provide support to the HSEQ Advisors within the contracts;
  • Maintaining the highest levels of personal health and safety.

The role holder will be required to:

  • Work autonomously whilst reporting to the HSEQ Manager
  • Quickly develop relationships at all levels
  • Ensure HSEQ operational compliance - legal and best practice;
  • Liaise with customer and clients on Health, Safety Environmental and quality matters, advising on customer failings and providing Health, Safety and Environmental advice.

The role holder will be required to:

  • Assist in producing safe systems of work - written procedures;
  • Assist local teams in the writing procedure for individual site requirements;
  • Write compliant procedures to ISO standards;
  • Identify gaps in the management system and make recommendations for improvements. Implement and then ensure operations are in compliance.
  • Assist project management teams in regards to tendering and bids;
  • Organise/Assist contract health, safety environmental and quality systems mobilisation, to include induction, equipment familiarisation and management systems;
  • Responsible for assessing whether the external environment is safe for work to be carried out in;

Knowledge, Skills and Qualifications

  • Achieved NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) Certificate or equivalent as a minimum and maintain some relevant professional association.
  • Similar Environmental qualification desired but not essential
  • General experience within HSEQ within; preferably, a construction background.
  • Experience of managing others.
  • Good communication, negotiation and influencing skills are all essential.
  • Must possess knowledge of change management, strategy and compliance management.
  • Knowledge of management systems and their functionality.
