Senior Systems Engineer required to join one of the UK's leading Aerospace / Defence companies who specialise in providing high integrity control equipment to a variety of aerospace, military vehicle and soldier applications.

Supporting the Systems Design function, the Senior Systems Engineer will make sure that both project and statutory requirements are met and to improve the effectiveness of the systems design function within the company.

Key responsibilities for the Senior Systems Engineer:

  • To competently resolve technical problems associated with assigned products
  • To help ensure engineering activity is carried out in accordance with engineering procedures
  • To support the preparation and updating of project plans for assigned projects
  • Ensure adequate constructive challenge is presented in design reviews to identify and help mitigate any key issues
  • Assist project leaders to achieve project objectives, attending project review meetings as required
  • Help to build and maintain excellent internal and external customer relationships
  • Prepare reports where required for internal and external use
  • Keep up to date with new developments within the market place
  • Prepare and deliver presentations as required
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures to ensure accreditation requirements are consistently met
  • Be prepared to travel to support current and future products on customers sites
  • Support additional activities identified from time to time in order to maximise the contribution to the companies goals and objectives.

The Senior Systems Engineer must have the following experience:

  • Good experience of electronics/systems design in aerospace
  • Technically competent to assess technical risk in their area and to honestly present the detail of these risks
  • Familiar with appropriate standards within area
  • Sound analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to suggest and apply practical and economic solutions to any problems encountered
  • Able to communicate succinctly and accurately about technical issues with internal and external customers and the project team
  • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Work effectively with other team members
  • Proactively able to manage own work in order to achieve agreed objectives
  • Use own initiative and makes timely decisions within the scope of the role and be financially aware of the consequences of decisions
  • Demonstrates a "Can do" positive attitude and leads by example
  • Good application of Microsoft packages and relevant software for the role

The Senior Systems Engineer must have the following technical experience:

  • Conversant with system design practice
  • Good level of experience with formal requirements and their negotiation, validation, verification and management
  • Conversant with safety critical architectures
  • Familiar with circuit design, analysis, test and modelling techniques for analogue and digital circuitry
  • Familiar with software design
  • Familiar with DO254
  • Familiar with DO178B
  • Familiar with DO160
  • Familiar with ARP4754A
  • Familiar with the manufacturing techniques used for aerospace electronics
  • Familiar with system modelling in MATLAB/SIMULINK
  • Familiar with DOORS
