Service Engineer- Radar

A Service Engineer is required for my client in Aberdeen to attend vessels and carry out service, maintenance, repairs, installation, commissioning and refits on marine navigation and communication systems. The successful Service Engineer will get an opportunity to not only work for a leading Defence company, but also a wealth of benefits, including:

Key Responsibilities of the Service Engineer:
* Attend vessels to carry out various service related activities on board ships as follows:
* Troubleshooting and fault diagnosis
* Repair and maintenance
* Servicing
* Installation & commissioning
* Equipment surveys
* Crew training
* Covering various marine electronics systems such as:
* Radar
* Integrated Navigation & Bridge Systems
* Echo sounder
* Communication(internal and external) systems
* Automation systems
* Man the technical helpline and assist with remote diagnosis of problems onboard vessels
* Assist with manning the 24/7 helpline and call-out roster
* Provide timely and quality Service Reports
* Provide technical support to sales team
* Develop links with partner companies for technical support and training
* Be able to manage safe working and ensure H&S considerations are addressed on site
* Carry out test and diagnosis of equipment in the workshop and onboard
* Always act in a manner which promotes the good image of the company and maximises chances of future business
* Short durations of travel in UK and overseas, may be at short notice and with anti-social hours
* Working alone in a high pressure environment
* Ensuring that customer satisfaction levels are high and the client is the first choice service partner

Knowledge, Skills And Experience of the Service Engineer:
* Good knowledge and sound technical understanding of marine navigation and communication systems. Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of bridge systems
* An intimate knowledge of the commercial shipping world, ideally having served time at sea
* Good communication skills written and verbal, ability to articulate technical issues to both non technical staff and to technical staff with different domain knowledge/responsibilities e.g. providing structured technical feedback to design engineering.
* Ability to work under pressure; meet tight deadlines, problem solving and executing duties while being observed by customer
* Thorough, diligent and practical approach.
* A relevant degree, HNC or equivalent engineering qualification
* Customer focussed and prepared to go the extra mile to solve his problem
* Able to promote the right impression of the client to maximise chances of future business.
* Ability to obtain security clearance
* An ability when working onboard a vessels of being able to identify sales opportunities for the company , promote the company's products and services and refer leads to the business development team.
* Self motivated and able to work alone and as a team
