Brief

Software Engineer needed for a multinational Defence and Security organisation with offices in Portsmouth and Glasgow, who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Software Engineer. This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on different specialisms within the team and provide ability to gain systems architecture and functionality experience.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Software Engineer will include:

• Act as the Primary integration representative with the each of the system delivery teams to ensure outputs from the supplier programme will deliver the required input for the integration programme.
• Design and development of integration strategies, trials requirements and trials plans for land based testing, harbour trials and sea trials for each system
• Observe the conduct of integration activities, where specified in the CS Integration Strategy, and collate evidence to contribute to achievement of CS acceptance.
• Ensure that Observation Reports from integration trials are being managed to completion to facilitate the Integration Trials Engineer delivering trials outputs
• Ensure that the collection of trials data will satisfy requirements set as assurance /acceptance milestones and the evidence required to clear the vessel for going to sea.
• Liaison between Technical Leads and suppliers for an individual system, the Trials Team & the Technical Authority to ensure the requirements of the integration programme are understood and prioritised.
• T26 Combat Systems Integration point of contact for the Shared (Network) Infrastructure, METOC and Weapon Section Base. Integration planning for the installation design of Shared Infrastructure
• Support the Integration Trials Engineers for each system in the delivery of trials, management of results and resolution of Observations Reports via the equipment delivery team

What experience you need to be the successful Software Engineer:

Essential

• Ability to apply systems of systems engineering approach to areas/systems with less functional knowledge or experience
• Previous experience of virtualised Network Infrastructure based systems in a trials or operational environment.
• Knowledge of key technologies/protocols including VMware, ESXI HA, VMware Horizon SAN, DNS, DHCP, IP, Switching/Routing, Security, HTTP, NTP, VDI (PCoIP / RDP /VNC)
• Experience working with network design involving any of the following; Switches (Juniper and Dell), Routers, Firewalls, Servers, Fibre Optics, LAN, WAN, TCP/IP (Ethernet)
• Experience of systems integration and trials in an engineering or defence related industry
• Ability to generate Integration Strategies and Trials documentation from Requirements, Interface Specifications and other supplier documentation
• HND/Apprentice/Degree in a relevant subject

Desirable

• Knowledge of Combat System Equipment used in the maritime environment, in particular METOC, Weapon Section Base and Combat Management System would be beneficial.
• Working experience in more than one phase of Life Cycle Management, with sufficient experience of the total LCM to enable a good understanding of adjacent phases and through life engineering issues.
• Knowledge of the Type 23, Type 45 Destroyer Combat System, CVF Mission System, or similar, and their integration approaches.
• Prior use of T26 project toolsets (e.g. DOORS, System Architect, Windchill, SDE, Rational Quality Manager, JIRA) is desirable.
• Knowledge of Def-Stan 21-88 implementation and risk-based integration approach.
