Weapons Safety Engineer
£40,000 - £50,000 + Bonus and extensive benefits
This company has been a key supplier to the Government and Industry for over 30 years and has been relied upon to provide a very specialist service in the field of Safety Engineering.
They also offer an extensive and growing range of expert services to these and other private sector clients, which includes this position in Weapons Safety.
The Weapons Assurance Team is already well established and due to ongoing successes are looking to grow further.
The successful candidate will work with clients (both direct to MOD and within the wider client base) to provide safety support throughout the life-cycle of their systems, from concept through to disposal. The majority of the work is focused on providing assurance that defence systems are safe to introduce into and remain in-service, in line with regulatory and legal requirements.
You will have the opportunity to work in a wide variety of defence acquisition projects across weapon, maritime, land and air domains, ranging from small equipment through to large and complex systems and platforms.
Typically, the Safety Teams undertake the following duties:
Safety Case development and management.
Hazard identification and analysis (HAZOP, SWIFT, FMEA).
Hazard log management.
Safety management strategy / system / plan development.
Probabilistic safety assessment, e.g. fault tree analysis (FTA) and event tree analysis (ETA).
Safety argument structuring, e.g. goal structuring notation (GSN).
Safety integrity level (SIL) derivation and assessment / software safety assessment.
Independent safety audit/advice.
We are looking for a range of experience levels from Junior Engineers through to Senior Consultants with:
A good degree in an Engineering, Safety or a related subject, but not essential;
Excellent communication skills. e.g. an ability to present (verbally and in writing) well-structured and justified arguments.
Security Clearance or ability to gain Security Clearance is essential.
Depending on you experience and background, in addition to the safety activities above, you may need to:
Support business development.
Take technical leadership and project management responsibility for a variety of safety consultancy projects.
You will be responsible for managing project teams.
Responsible for supervising and auditing projects
Mentoring junior staff.
