Associate Database Administrator needed for a leading Defence organisation based in Farnborough who are looking to employ an experienced Associate Database Administrator with an in-depth SQL experience
What the role entails:
Some of the main duties of the Associate Database Administrator will include:
- Perform ongoing checks of the database estate utilising available monitoring tools in order to highlight and remedy any business or user impacting issues
- Ensure all databases are backed up to meet an agreed recovery point objective and sufficiently tested to meet an agreed recovery time objective
- Ensure the day to day operation, performance and integrity of the SQL Server database estate remains within agreed standards
- Resolve user issues in a timely and professional manner within the ITSM system
- Troubleshoot service outages if they occur and escalate issues to senior team members where necessary to avoid recurrence
- Deploy database change scripts as provided by third party vendors and in-house developers under an agreed change management process
- Producing and maintaining operational documentation and ensure adherence to relevant internal and industry standards
- Ensuring the SQL Server estate is patched to an agreed level in order to minimise operational risk
- Manage the installation, configuration and optimisation of new installations of SQL Server within the companies SQL estate
What you need to be the successful Associate Database Administrator
:
In order to be the successful Associate Database Administrator and have a chance to gain such an exciting opportunity you will ideally need to have the following:
Essential Knowledge:
- Microsoft SQL Server (Any version)
- Desirable Knowledge
- Microsoft Azure
- Microsoft Windows Server
- Clustering & High Availability and Disaster Recovery concepts
- Redgate SQL Monitor
- Other relational and non-relational database management systems
Key Capabilities:
- Professional in dress, manner and communication
- Flexible approach to working outside core hours in order to deal with operations requirements or to meet project deadlines (including evenings and weekends)
- Able to prioritise tasks effectively and escalate where necessary
- Work to SLA / OLA's
- Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn through self-taught and course driven avenues
Experience & Qualifications:
- MTA: Database Qualification or equivalent experience
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and analyse technical problems
- SC clearance to be held and maintained
