We are working in partnership with a leading engineering manufacturer in the West Midlands to recruit an experienced Buyer on a contract basis through to the end of September. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the delivery of high-integrity, safety-critical programmes within a fast-paced, project-driven environment.

The Role


As Buyer, you will play a key role in supporting engineering and production teams by ensuring the timely procurement of materials, components, and services. Operating within a complex supply chain, you will help drive cost, quality, and delivery performance while maintaining compliance with defence and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities as a Buyer:

  • Manage end-to-end procurement of components, materials, and services
  • Raise and manage purchase orders in line with MRP/ERP demand signals
  • Expedite orders to ensure on-time delivery to production and project schedules
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Programme teams to support delivery
  • Source new suppliers and support supplier selection and onboarding
  • Negotiate pricing, lead times, and terms to achieve best value
  • Monitor supplier performance and resolve supply chain issues proactively
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes and defence procurement standards
  • Support cost reduction and continuous improvement initiatives

Key Requirements as a Buyer:

  • Proven experience as a Buyer within engineering, manufacturing, or defence environments
  • Strong understanding of technical procurement (e.g. machined parts, electronics, assemblies)
  • Experience working with ERP/MRP systems (e.g. SAP, Oracle, IFS or similar)
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across engineering and operations teams
  • Experience in expediting and managing suppliers in a project-based environment
  • Good commercial awareness and negotiation skills

Desirable

  • Experience within defence, aerospace, or other regulated industries
  • Knowledge of export controls / compliance (e.g. ITAR, EAR)
