An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Manager to join a leading main contractor delivering a major infrastructure project in Birmingham. They are looking for a talented and experienced Commercial Manager to join their team and play a crucial role in their success.

The Commercial Manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing all commercial aspects of a high profile, major infrastructure project in the West Midlands. You will be working closely with the project team, various contractors and the client to ensure the successful delivery of the project while maintaining profitability and adherence to the agreed contractual obligations. Some of the Commercial Managers responsibilities will include:

• Lead the commercial function, ensuring effective management of all commercial activities related to the project.
• Develop and implement commercial strategies, systems, and processes to maximise project profitability and minimise risk.
• Manage contractual agreements, variations, and claims, ensuring compliance with contractual terms and conditions.
• Provide accurate cost forecasting, cost control, and financial analysis to support decision-making.
• Oversee procurement activities, including tendering, negotiation, and contract award processes.
• Collaborate with project stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, and suppliers, to maintain strong working relationships and resolve commercial issues.
• Monitor project progress and financial performance, reporting on key metrics and identifying opportunities for improvement.
• Provide commercial guidance and support to the project team, ensuring compliance with commercial policies and procedures.
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices, applying this knowledge to enhance project outcomes.

Commercial Managers considering this opportunity will need the following experience and qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering or a related field
• Proven experience as a Commercial Manager on large civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities projects within the UK
• In-depth knowledge of the UK's construction industry including contractual frameworks, regulations and best practices
• Strong commercial acumen
• Excellent negotiation and contract management skills
• Experience in managing contractual claims, variations and dispute resolution
