Brief
General Manager needed for well know Highways organisation based in and around the Oxford area with travel to other sites when needed. My client is looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded General Manager that takes pride in their work - comes from a contracting / highways background especially challenging / time critical works, experience of managing teams of people, commercially astute and focussed on delivering a profitable outcome.

The successful candidate would need to have exceptional people leadership skills, with the ability to develop, coach, guide and motivate as well as having strong knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and environmental frameworks gained from operating within high-risk environments (IOSH / NEBOSH / SMSTS etc.)

What the role entails:
Some of the main duties of the General Manager will include:

· Provide strategic input to support the development of the division, department, function, and business.
· Lead on operational depots, ensuring leases, suitable facilities and all HSEQ requirements are in place and are maintained by the local controller of premises.
· Be the lead in bidding for projects, working with the Commercial team in determining resource requirements, costs, and deliverability.
· Ensure the teams understand the full aspect of the project and ensure that all Commercial targets and commitments are met and resource allocations optimised.
· Be the point of contact for contract & project requirements. Delegating to Operational and Commercial team members, as required.
· Lead and support operational managers to ensure that project requirements are known and planned with sufficient resource available for successful delivery of client's expectations.

What experience you need to be the successful General Manager:

· Highways Operational / Contract management experience.
· People / Plant / Logistics exposure and / or time critical and reactive experience.
· Commercially astute with a drive for success, rejecting mediocracy and failure. Desire to take commercial responsibility for outcomes
· Experience of the strategic management of multiple projects, opportunities and clients with conflicting priorities and a dynamic environment
· Exceptional people leadership skills, with the ability to develop, coach, guide and motivate.
· Knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Environmental frameworks gained from operating within high-risk environments (IOSH / NEBOSH / SMSTS etc.)
· NEC3/4 contract - knowledge and experience an advantage
· Demonstrate an eye for detail and commitment to delivering excellent standards and customer service
