International Trade Compliance Advisor

International Trade Compliance Advisor needed for a leading Defence organisation based in Farnborough who are looking to employ an experienced International Trade Compliance Advisor with US & UK Export controls/compliance experience, ideally within Defence

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the International Trade Compliance Advisor will include:

  • Providing guidance and training on the impact of import and export control regulations and licencing, dealing with internal and external customers/agencies to ensure trade compliance and allow business objectives to be met in the most effective and efficient manner possible
  • Determine the HMRC tariff and procedure codes for imports and exports as required.
  • Liaising with nominated freight forwarder to organise all movements required by the businesses
  • Determine the classification of goods, software and technology to be exported
  • Prepare accurate and compliant import/export paperwork, customs documents and maintain complete records for audit plus export licence and F680 applications via SPIRE
  • Support US customers and suppliers in the scoping of accurate US authorisation applications to support programmes/business development; (CM/DM/AM)

What you need to be the successful International Trade Compliance Advisor:

In order to be the successful International Trade Compliance Advisor and have a chance to gain such an exciting opportunity you will ideally need to have the following:

  • Knowledge of UK, EU and US import and export controls;
  • Experience in the selection and use of licences, licence exceptions, and development, implementation, and management of a compliance program, including training, policies, guidelines and procedures
  • Experience in both hardware, software and technology export classification preferred
  • Experience in imports/exports related to the defence industry preferred
  • Good written and verbal communication skills to allow communication of detailed and complicated subjects in a manner that is appropriate to the audience
  • Ability to analyse complex business situations and advice on the impact of international export controls and provide clear instructions at all levels
  • Able to work well and make clear rational decisions under pressure and work to tight timescales
  • Methodical approach to problem solving and task prioritisation with exceptional attention to detail

    Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience of working with legal and/or compliance with a primary focus on international trade compliance preferable
  • Desired Training in export control legislation (UK & US)
