East London

We are looking for a Junior Energy Analyst to join a sustainable network organisation in the East London area to undertake a trainee role in becoming a key player to the Energy Intelligence Team, monitoring the day-to-day operations of energy schemes across the UK.

What the role entails:

As a Junior Energy Analyst, you will be responsible for:

  • Measure, monitor and report on plant physical performance: Thermal and cooling efficiencies, Electrical efficiencies, Operational regimes, Plant outputs
  • Investigate and improve all system losses: Thermal losses, Electrical losses, Parasitic loads
  • Measure, monitor and report on plant financial performance
  • Assist with the formation of energy budgets
  • Attend monthly financial meetings to investigate and discuss financial and operational performance against budget
  • Assist in the building of Annual Financial Models
  • Assess the current performance of the energy schemes and recommend improvement changes and upgrades (control set points, VSDs etc.)
  • Identify new energy saving opportunities and conduct surveys and feasibilities studies with the Urban Energy teams (e.g. boilers economisers, low temperature absorption chillers)
  • Identify opportunities to improve high return temperatures in our systems
  • Work in conjunction with Energy Intelligence team on options and technology to improve efficiency
  • Carry out thermal & electrical balances identifying and rectifying any imbalances where possible
  • Refer any unresolved energy imbalances to Energy Intelligence team
  • Suggest new ideas/solutions that could improve the performance of the energy schemes

Experience required for the Junior Energy Analyst position:

  • This role requires a good knowledge of data analysis, modelling, utilities and operational knowledge of power and heating and cooling plants.
  • Qualified to a minimum 2:1 degree level in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent Engineering Discipline
  • An understanding of the principals of district energy and CHP
  • Heating and cooling system design including a range of generation system (CHP, Biomass, Boilers etc..) would be an advantage
  • Must be both positive and proactive when approaching all tasks
  • Demonstrable competence in the use of Microsoft Excel is essential
  • Knowledge of Controls, VSDs and Metering Systems would be an advantage
