Mechanical CAD Designer
New Malden
Brief
We are seeking a Mechanical CAD Designer to support all of the Mechanical Design work on internally funded and customer funded projects, providing CAD skills coupled with Engineering experience in the delivery of designs and products for defence surface and sub-surface boats.
It is desirable for the successful candidate to have a relevant degree in Mechanical Engineering or another relevant discipline and have a keen interest in being a Mechanical CAD Designer. If you have previous commercial experience as a Mechanical CAD Designer that would be a plus!
Role Responsibilities
Some of the main duties of the Mechanical CAD Designer will include:
Lead all design activities involved with 3D CAD Modelling from Concept, Development through Prototyping and Production by the generation of Assembly Drawings, Detail Drawings and Bill of Material (BOM) creation.
Ensure that all detail drawings conform to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GT&D) in accordance with BS8888.
A high proportion of the Mechanical design work will be based around Electronic Packaging of outstations which will be situated in various parts of the boats with varying requirements.
Where appropriate undertake visits to subcontractors to agree designs or investigate any problems arising in the manufacture of the hardware.
Ensure all responsibilities are delivered in accordance with Company Standards of Conduct and contractual processes.
Carry out any other reasonable management requests.
What experience you need to be the successful Mechanical CAD Designer:
Good working knowledge of Creo Elements 3.0 and Windchill PDM Link 11.0
Good working knowledge of AutoCAD 2020 & Autodesk Inventor 2021
HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering
Ability to perform manual calculations.
Industry experience within Marine/Mechanical/Electro Mechanical/Apprenticeship
