About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer Contractor with strong expertise in complex enclosure design to support our growing engineering team. You'll work within integrated product teams and collaborate closely with specialists across mechanical, electrical, systems and electro-mechanical disciplines to develop high-performance mechanical solutions for cutting-edge defence products.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy variety, and want to contribute across the full product lifecycle-from concept generation to final delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Create high-quality mechanical models using CAD tools
- Contribute to all stages of product design and development
- Apply mechanical engineering expertise to support new business opportunities
- Work closely with cross-discipline teams to develop robust, innovative solutions
- Champion engineering excellence and best practice across the organisation
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
- Broad technical understanding, including systems, electrical, electro-mechanical or rotating machinery
- Strong experience with manufacturing methods for electrical enclosures (fabrications, castings, welding, machining, corrosion protection)
- Proficient in SolidWorks
- Good knowledge of materials and design lifecycle processes (gated phases, design reviews)
- Experience designing to stringent requirements, including shock, EMC and thermal constraints
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
