Payroll Specialist

Brief
Payroll Specialist needed for a highly reputable and leading Defence organisation based in Fareham who are looking to employ an experienced and organised Payroll Specialist that has the ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines in a fast paced, complex environment. This role will support an insourced payroll with an estimated employee headcount of 1800.
Some of the main duties of the Payroll Specialist will include:
All aspects of the payroll processing life cycle from new hire to termination, with additional responsibility for year-end reporting requirements.
Processing the day-to-day UK payrolls, ensuring appropriate liason and coverage with the team.
Working alongside the Senior Payroll Specialist to manage timely delivery of payroll deliverables and ensure all back-up is provided for checking and audit activities.
Process both the advanced and arrears payrolls per the calendars each month.
Checking and maintaining accuracy of employee records where appropriate for:
Starters and leavers
Verify all payment & deduction changes as appropriate
Maintenance of Tax & NI records
Maintenance of pension records
Calculations of all statutory payments to include but not limited to:
SMP, SAP, SSP, SHPP and SPP
Manual calculations of gross to NET overpayments.
Process adjustments such as reversals, returned overpayments and ad hoc payments ensuring HMRC receive the correct data by the applicable deadline.
Carry out reconciliations such as ensuring the FPS balances to payroll results.
Validate and action payment requests via the Payroll Sharepoint Workflow Tool such as KIT day payments, standby allowances etc.
Carry out post payroll activities such as:
Payslip printing as and when required
Produce P45s
Submission of Pension Reports to 3rd party providers
Working with the Senior Payroll Specialist to perform year end requirements such as P60's and P11D's.
Deal with anomolies and enquiries relating to pay.
Comply with filing and record retention requirements - maintain data for internal and external audits.
Liaise with HR, Rewards and various Finance function POC's.
Maintenance and review of payroll procedures.
Support the Payroll Manager on UK Payroll Scorecard activities to drive service delivery of the payroll in collaboration with the HR business units.
Other work as directed by the Payroll Manager.
What experience you need to be a successful Payroll Specialist:
Experience with insourced end to end payroll.
Ability to carry out manual payroll calculations to support validations.
Data collation, organisation and analytical skills.
Possesses a high level of accuracy with strong attention to detail.
Ability to prioritise work to meet deadlines in a fast paced, complex environment.
Interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Proficiency with MS Office applications, particularly Excel and ability to carry out lookups/pivot table activities for analysis.
Desired Skills:
Oracle Peoplesoft experience (current payroll system).
An understanding of payrolling benefits.
Typical minimum education and experience: Bachelors degree from an accredited college in a related discipline, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 3 years of professional experience; or 1 year of professional experience with a related Masters degree
