Principal Systems Engineer

What the role entails:
Some of the main duties of the Principal Systems Engineer will include:
- To lead air vehicle systems engineering analysis, using the SAE ARP4754 process, throughout the development life cycle for aircraft and aircraft systems, to include:
- Identification of Aircraft-Level Functions, Function Requirements and Function Interfaces
- Allocation of Aircraft Functions to Systems
- Development of System Architecture
- Allocation of System Requirements to Items
- System/Aircraft Level Integration & Verification
- To conduct Model Based Systems Engineering
- To produce (or coordinate) associated requirements documents to flow to design teams, system safety assessment, suppliers, partners and customers, as required.
- To lead systems engineering activities and meet assigned tasks
- To deliver design outputs to meet performance, time and cost requirements
- To be responsible for the safety, airworthiness and quality of all personal outputs; compliance with airworthiness and environmental requirements; and design engineering governance, standards and practices
What experience you need to be the successful Principal Systems Engineer:
- Experienced aerospace engineer with at least 7+ years of relevant industry experience
- Familiar with SAE ARP4754 (Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft and Systems) or similar structured process(es) for aerospace systems engineering
- Ideally would also have some of the following:
- Experience of relevant roles in a UK CAA, EASA or FAA Part 21J Design Organization or a UK MAA Design Approved Organization Scheme company and/or an aerospace mechanical systems or propulsion design organization
- Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer status (or be academically qualified to become so and actively gathering evidence of qualifying experience)
- Engineering familiarity with a range of aircraft types, from light aircraft to airliners
- Familiarity with software tools for:
- Requirements management - eg Visure Requirements or DOORS
- Model Based Systems Engineering - eg Capella
- Some knowledge of electric aircraft propulsion and hydrogen fuel cell systems
