The Role:
So, what will you be doing as a Principal Thermal Engineer?
- Lead and deliver packages of thermal analysis work.
- Provide mechanical analysis expertise to support design development and validate thermal performance.
- Produce clear, concise reports presenting analysis evidence with firm conclusions.
- Contribute to team meetings, technical discussions, and formal design reviews.
- Manage your workload effectively, meeting project schedules and regularly reporting progress.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders across multiple disciplines and organisations.
What are we looking for in our next Principal Thermal Engineer?
- Degree qualified in a STEM discipline.
- Proven experience conducting thermal analysis using hand calculations and FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS).
- Expertise in one or more of the following:
- Studying the effects of conduction, convection, and radiation on system thermal response.
- Thermal analysis of electronic systems.
- MATLAB/Simulink-based thermal modelling.
- CFD for thermal behaviour assessment.
- Scripting in MATLAB or Python.
- Ability to make rapid, pragmatic assessments to support efficient design iteration.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a self-motivated and organised approach to work.
- Comfortable working independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, with the ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in a comparable industry is advantageous.
