Project Engineer - Building Control Systems
Kent/London
Onsite
Project Engineer Role Overview:
The Project Engineer is a key member of the post-order delivery team, responsible for ensuring building control system projects are executed to the highest standards-on time, within budget, and with strong client satisfaction. The role can be either multi-disciplinary or focused on specialist areas depending on experience and capability.
Project Engineers may be assigned full ownership of small projects or collaborate on larger-scale system deployments under the guidance of a Project Manager.
Core Responsibilities by Discipline:
Contract and Project Coordination
- Collaborate with the Project Manager (and where needed, the Contracts Manager) to understand all contractual elements of assigned projects and maintain full accountability for their execution.
- Plan project workflows and deliverables, including technical submittals, RFIs, reports, and commissioning schedules.
- Negotiate and manage sub-contracts and special purchases to ensure profitability, and liaise with procurement for accurate order fulfilment.
- Oversee scheduling, progress tracking, and commercial management through to final account settlement, ensuring all financial milestones and retention releases are met.
Technical Design & Documentation
- Interpret and implement system design specifications, including drawings, valve schedules, operation descriptions, DDC strategies, and graphical interface requirements.
- Ensure designs adhere to internal engineering standards and industry best practices.
- Maintain detailed technical documentation and deliver fully compiled O&M manuals upon project completion.
Commissioning & Testing
- Conduct comprehensive system commissioning, including field testing, motor checks, panel setup (e.g., fuses and overloads), and validation of DDC programming.
- Attend coordination meetings to support scheduled commissioning.
- Identify and report any issues that may impact commissioning timelines and escalate where required.
- Document additional or abortive work, ensuring no scope variation proceeds without client authorisation.
Project Engineer General Responsibilities (Applies to All Project Engineers):
- Communicate effectively and collaboratively with all members of the project team.
- Maintain accurate inventory records of materials and equipment; safeguard company assets.
- Demonstrate competency in IT and relevant technical applications.
- Commit to continuous learning and upskilling in line with project needs.
- Manage project files and records in accordance with company procedures to support efficient operations.
- Use clear and professional communication-both written and verbal-when interacting with clients, colleagues, and suppliers.
- Organise time effectively to meet deadlines and avoid project delays.
- Operate within the defined company structure, accept reasonable direction, and delegate appropriately when required.
- Comply with all standards outlined in the company handbook.
- Notify your line manager of capacity for additional tasks or any factors preventing successful delivery of your responsibilities.
