Project Engineer (Contract) - Defence Sector
Location: Deeside
Security Clearance: SC required
Overview
We are recruiting for a Project Engineer on a long term contract to join a leading defence engineering organisation supporting critical avionics, electronics, and component programmes for the UK Armed Forces.
This Project Engineer role offers the opportunity to develop your engineering knowledge and project delivery capability, con-tributing to high priority Defence programmes.
As a Project Engineer you will be responsible for delivering a range of engineering projects (both acquisition and in-service support) using structured project management methodologies such as PRINCE2/APM.
There may be occasional travel to other MOD locations when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage engineering projects from initiation through to delivery
- Plan, organise, and oversee all project activities to ensure successful outcomes
- Develop and maintain system requirements, including ongoing support considerations
- Create detailed business cases covering:
- Strategic alignment
- Financial and economic analysis
- Commercial delivery approaches
- Support technical activities including evaluation, selection, and verification
- Ensure safety risks are managed to ALARP principles in collaboration with Engineering Authorities
- Representing the function in cross departmental meetings and technical discussions
- Support financial management activities, including:Forecast of Outturn (FoO)
Skills & Experience Required
- Level 4 qualification with advanced/higher apprenticeship OR Level 3 qualification with a recognised engineering apprenticeship plus relevant experience
- Demonstrable engineering background - ideally mechanical bias
- Project delivery capability within engineering/technical environments
- Eligibility for EngTech registration (UK-SPEC)
- Experience within project engineering or technical project environments
- Strong planning, organisation, and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work autonomously and within cross-functional teams
- Full UK manual driving licence
