Scientist/ Senior Scientist (Assay Development)

Location: Salary: Negotiable
Sector: Medical Devices Specialism:
Type: Permanent Contact: Simon Cowley

Company:

My client is a rapidly growing venture-capital backed company that has developed an entirely new class of diagnostic product - an instrument-free molecular test. The Company's products combine the superior performance of laboratory testing with the proven market benefits of disposable tests. The company's first product is a simple disposable test that uses a nasal swab sample to give an ultra-rapid result without the need for any instrumentation.

As a molecular test it exploits the Gold Standard chemistry of laboratory tests but is easy to use in any setting and thus will enable widespread decentralised testing for COVID-19. The company has ambitious plans to grow from its strong foundations and become a leader in this exciting new segment of the diagnostics industry.

My client is currently expanding its molecular development capabilities and is seeking an experienced Scientist / Senior Scientist to join the team.

The Role and Responsibilities:

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated scientist to contribute to the development and growth of an innovative molecular diagnostics start-up company. Working in close collaboration with the existing molecular discovery, molecular development and engineering teams in a multidisciplinary environment, the successful candidate will perform a crucial role in the development of innovative molecular diagnostic assays and products. The candidate is expected to contribute at each stage, from assay design (bioinformatics), through to experimental screening, optimisation and integration into a format suitable for use in point-of-care molecular diagnostic products.

Applicant:

Candidates are expected to have a scientific degree relevant to the role in addition to laboratory experience in the diagnostics industry. The role offers significant opportunities for growth and development of both laboratory and personal attributes.

This role will suit a candidate who backs themselves to deliver against milestones and has the scientific confidence to get things done in a robust, direct and innovative way. Previous experience in a company is desirable but not required. What is expected is that the candidate buys into the vision of the company and can self-motivate and direct themselves to create value in a fast-moving organisation.

A post graduate degree (Masters / PhD qualification) would be an advantage. More broadly, we are looking for a team player with the initiative, flexibility, drive and enthusiasm to make a difference, to achieve goals and exceed expectations in a dynamic start-up environment.

Services advertised by Gold Group are those of an Agency and/or an Employment Business.
