The successful candidate will lead on all European ESG responsibilities. Working closely with senior stakeholders, the candidate will implement an ESG strategy and lead delivery for the European business which will feed into the wider global strategy.

This strategy should be easily articulated both internally and externally, and should provide a clear path for each business area in Europe to contribute to the firm wide effort to be a global leader in this space. As part of this, the successful candidate will be able to persuade stakeholders from across the business to actively engage in the defined ESG vision. As the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing individual national ESG agendas, they should be comfortable working across multiple jurisdictions.

Additionally, the candidate will be expected to play a key role in business development, helping articulate the ESG strategy to clients and investors ensuring that their concerns and interests are taken into account by the firm on ESG-related issues. They will act as a spokesperson on ESG-related matters working with distribution and marketing to successfully raise the firms profile in sustainable investing and development.

The candidate will also be expected to keep the business abreast of developments in the ESG market, with particular focus on regulation and governance. Continued fluency in the ESG regulations and practices is important, and the candidate will be expected to ensure the business does not fall behind in this regard. This is relevant specifically to developments in the US regarding double materiality.

You should be capable of leading on core ESG activates: oversight of active ownership initiatives; integration of ESG into the investment process including valuation work; assist develop new offerings that leverage ESG insights; ensure compliance on ESG related issues, including PRI and evaluating and improving all internal ESG protocols and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the ESG strategy day-to-day and implement the Europe wide ESG strategy in accordance with the firm wide ESG vision, managing multiple stakeholders across:

  • Investment and Portfolio Management
  • Design & Construction
  • Research and Risk
  • Business Development and Client Management
  • Marketing
  • Product Development
  • Compliance and Legal

Working with the Head of Europe, the Head of European Portfolio Management, and the Global Head of Sustainability to manage client communications and marketing on stewardship activities, including regular thought pieces in company publications, presentations and seminars.

Introduce effective sales and marketing messaging to highlight sustainable investing policies and practices across strategies

Manage and build a technically strong team, guiding their work on ESG integration, engagement and reporting

Ensure compliance with all relevant ESG related regulations and alignment with appropriate international bodies eg. UN PRI

Establish and maintain appropriate reporting and monitoring practices in relation to ESG, in accordance with the latest guidance and client requirements

Experience / Technical Skills / Knowledge

Tangible track record of meaningful achievement across Real Estate Development / Investment Management

Material exposure to and activity in ESG as well as an underlying interest in ESG

Proven ability to manage stakeholders, persuading and aligning different interested parties to a common goal and strategy.

Demonstrable track record of defining and implementing an all-encompassing firm wide ESG vision and strategy.

Exceptional communication skills to provide clear direction.

Knowledge of European ESG policy, protocol as well as an overall understanding of the evolving nature of ESG in the region.
