System Safety Engineer
Civil Aerospace
Location: Bristol or Yeovil (3 days on site per week)
Rate: £65-£70 per hour
Duration: 12 months, starting ASAP
A leading aerospace organisation is seeking an experienced System Safety Engineer to support civil aircraft certification and assurance activities. The role involves working within an established engineering team delivering safety analysis and verification evidence for critical aircraft systems.
This position offers the opportunity to collaborate with international safety and certification specialists on advanced civil aerospace programmes.
Role Overview
The System Safety Engineer will develop and manage safety analysis and verification evidence in line with civil certification standards. Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you will apply recognised methodologies to ensure compliance with ARP4754A and ARP4761 requirements across aircraft systems.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTA), and Common Mode Analyses.
Tag and validate safety requirements across airplane, system, and item levels.
Support verification and validation activities aligned with System Safety Assessments (SSA).
Ensure compliance with DO-178C and DO-254 processes.
Liaise with cross-functional engineering teams to maintain safety integrity throughout the lifecycle.
Develop clear verification arguments and safety evidence packages.
Essential Requirements
Degree (or higher) in Aerospace, Electrical, Systems, or Safety Engineering.
Minimum 10 years' aerospace experience, including 6+ years in System Safety.
Strong understanding of ARP4754A and ARP4761 methodologies.
Proficiency in FTA using Reliability Workbench or CAFTA.
Proven capability in developing civil aircraft system safety assessments.
Desirable Experience
- Formal System Safety training or certification.
- Safety analysis experience on ATA 27 Flight Controls or similar systems.
- Experience working within geographically dispersed engineering teams.
