Component Engineer

Component Engineer needed for a multinational Defence organisation based in High Wycombe. They're looking to employ an experienced Component Engineer who will work on a wide range of projects to maintain the engineering part records within our MRP tools, monitor part compliance and life status and support obsolescence studies as well as provide general support in the day to day usage of the MRP tools.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Component Engineer will include:

  • To monitor, manage and maintain parts databases (ECAD/MRP); ensuring records are up-to-date, are of adequate quality to meet the standards
  • Support obsolescence studies and produce reports, covering full system, sub-system and individual board assemblies
  • Support design engineers in the development of technical solutions that meets the customer, legislative and business requirement
  • Responsible for providing planning and estimation input into Project Managers related to components management activities
  • Assist in the resolution of qualification, certification, compliance and safety issues
  • Support risk identification and mitigation activities related to component obsolescence or maintainability
  • Support the Electronic Function Lead to produce a set of processes and procedures for the component management activities
  • Act as Project Engineering Lead (PEL), or Work Package Manager (WPM) on one or more projects;
  • Coach and mentor more junior Engineers (senior engineer level only)

What you need to be the successful Component Engineer:

In order to be the successful Component Engineer and have a chance to gain such an exciting opportunity you will ideally need to have the following:

  • Self-motivated, adaptable to change, proactive, diligent and with good inter-personal skills;
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Electronics or a relevant subject, (Chartered status or Professional Registration is desirable)
  • Familiarity with one or more MRP (IFS/Windchill) and ECAD (CADSTAR or similar)/MCAD (Inventor or similar) tools is critical
  • Knowledge of EMC standards, Environmental Compliance requirements and Electronic or Mechanical design principles
  • Experience of the whole Systems lifecycle within a Defence environment
  • Knowledge of Engineering best practices, methodologies, processes and tools
  • Demonstrable design experience is desirable
  • Eligible for SC clearance as a minimum
