Human Factors Engineer
RH6 area (Crawley / Horley / Redhill / Reigate)

Position summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Human Factors Engineer to join our HF Team in the medical industry. The Human Factors Engineer will work with our group of experienced engineers, to define, refine and evaluate the full usability of our clients healthcare products.

The Human Factors Engineer will be responsible for applying human factors principles to the design and development of Cancer Care systems to ensure that they are safe, effective, and easy to use by healthcare professionals and patients. This role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and experience in conducting user research and usability testing. Part of this role will involve travel to the US office where they are developing new products.

Relevant Knowledge and Skill requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Human Factors Engineering, Cognitive Psychology, Industrial Design, or related field
  • Some previous experience in human factors engineering or usability engineering in the medical device industry
  • Strong understanding of human factors engineering principles, user-centered design, and usability testing methods
  • Experience with one or more of the software tools such as Axure, Sketch, NVIVO, SPSS and Excel for user research, prototyping, and data analysis
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment


Key responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting user research to understand user needs, preferences, and limitations
  • Assist in developing user profiles, personas, and use cases to inform product design
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including product development, engineering, regulatory, and marketing to develop product requirements and specifications
  • Assist in creating user interface designs, prototypes, and mockups to test and evaluate product concepts
  • Conduct formative testing to evaluate and refine product designs throughout the development process
  • Conduct summative testing to evaluate the usability and safety of medical devices
  • Conduct UFMEA to identify potential use errors and mitigate risks associated with use errors
  • Evaluate user feedback to identify design improvements
  • Assist in developing and maintaining human factors engineering documentation such as use risk analyses, human factors validation plans, and usability reports
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as FDA guidance and international standards related to human factors engineering.
