About the role
We are currently recruiting for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer within a highly reputable Security and Defense organsiation based in Ampthill. The Operations Engineering team provides engineering resources to support Operational performance and major product development projects; from design through to engineering build and production support, to end of life of product. The team provides full product lifecycle support including prototype design & build, development and integration of the build documentation and supporting requirements of full production build. This is a permanent role, working 4 days a week (Mon-Thu) with a highly competitive salary & benefits scheme.

This role will focus on involvement through the full product lifecycle, with the aim to reduce manufacturing costs and improve yield at all stages, which will directly impact our customers, whilst supporting the Programme in delivery of the milestones.

What do I need?

You'll need experience in some of the following areas would be desirable, but not essential.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Machining and Manufacturing technologies.
• Knowledge of CNC programming and machining techniques.
• Knowledge of programming robots.
• Good communication skills that can sell and influence to a range of audiences internally and externally with the ability to work with all levels of the business.
• An independent thinker, able to take an assertive stance to enforce the key requirements of quality and the customer.
• Demonstrate a level of design and manufacturing process industry experience with CNC machining
• Knowledge of, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodology, Quality toolset experience.
• An understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances) with the ability to identify key characteristics and datum structures.
• Familiar with the use of CAD software to generate 2D technical drawings would be beneficial
• Experience of preparing operational documentation and manufacturing data-packs.
• Detailed understanding of the fundamentals of MRP and experience in the maintenance of Manufacturing BOM's and routings and controlling factors within SAP (or similar ERP software).
• Experience of driving change in process, behaviour and culture
• Awareness of DFM/A and PFMEA principles and the use of them in a practical application to support Industrial Engineering activity.
• Familiar with the use of CAD software to generate 2D technical drawings.
• Understanding of SPC data and calculations.
• Problem solving experience (8D, A3, Root Cause Analysis etc.).
• Strong analytical skills.
• Key competences: Personal accountability, building relationships, planning for results, customer first, adaptability.
• Capable of obtaining SC - Security ClearancE

What will I be doing?

You'll be delivering a range of electrical and electronic assembly wiring. Including PCB population and inspection including SMD. You'll be interpreting digital and analogue electronics using a range of applications such as MS Office to track and complete tasks within an electrical environment.

You will be responsible for:

• Developing manufacturing processes within any of the following technologies; NC Machining
• Defining sequence of operations, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing and material handling taking into account flow and lean philosophies.
• Providing Basis of Estimates for engineering activities and shop floor operations across a range of technologies and disciplines.
• Identifying any new tooling & fixturing requirements.
• Experienced in the creation of Technical Requirement Specifications.
• Creating detailed process instructions.
