Senior Support Engineer

Senior Support Engineer needed for a multinational Defence & Maritime organisation based in Bristol who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Senior Support Engineer that takes pride in their work with an in-depth knowledge of and sound technical understanding of marine navigation and communication systems, an intimate knowledge of the commercial shipping world, ideally having served time at sea and an ability when working onboard a vessels of being able to identify sales opportunities for the company.
What the role entails:
Some of the main duties of the Senior Support Engineer will include:
Attend vessels to carry out various support related activities on board ships as follows:
- Troubleshooting and fault diagnosis
- Repair and maintenance
- Servicing
- Installation & commissioning
- Equipment surveys
- Crew training
- Managing sub-contractors
Covering various marine electronics systems such as:
- Radar
- Integrated Navigation & Bridge Systems
- AIS, Log, DGPS, VDR
- ECDIS
- Echo sounder
- Communication (internal and external) systems
Make technical presentations and demonstrate how product/systems designs meet customer needs:
- Design of navigation and communication systems
- Liase with suppliers and customers
What experience you need to be the successful Java Developer:
- Good knowledge and sound technical understanding of marine navigation and communication systems. Ability to diagnose and repair a wide range of bridge systems
- An intimate knowledge of the commercial shipping world, ideally having served time at sea
- Good communication skills written and verbal, ability to articulate technical issues to both non-technical staff and to technical staff with different domain knowledge/responsibilities e.g. providing structured technical feedback to design engineering.
- Ability to work under pressure; meet tight deadlines, problem solving and executing duties
- Thorough, diligent and practical approach.
- A relevant degree, HNC or equivalent engineering qualification
- Customer focussed and prepared to go the extra mile to meet their needs
- Able to promote the right impression of the company to maximise chances of future business.
- Ability to obtain security clearance
- An ability when working onboard a vessel of being able to identify sales opportunities for the company, promote the company's products and services and refer leads to the business development team.
- Able to develop strong customer relations and generate business.
- Self-motivated and able to work alone and as part of a team
