Product Owner

As a Product Owner you will manage, maintains, and prioritises the product backlog, working with the team with the aim of always keeping enough refined work available for them. Engaging with Product Management, Technical Leads and agile practices across teams, to ensure product vision is visible and delivered via the team's stories.

The right stuff

  • Understanding and identifying the scope, vision & stakeholders for the backlog(s) that they own.
  • Defining and refining, together with any relevant stakeholders, product story and feature backlogs through regular refinement sessions.
  • Collaborating with team members and stakeholders in converting the backlog items into working product and on a common understanding of what it means for a backlog item to be considered "done".
  • Ensure that there are sufficient, prioritised and well-defined items to exceed at least one increment (e.g. a sprint) of the team's capacity according to the team velocity.
  • Ensuring that backlog items, as they become close to execution, are as INVESTed as practical (Independent, Negotiable, Valuable, Estimable, Suitably Sized and Testable).
  • Ensuring the demonstration of integrated working product (or other outputs of completed backlog items) frequently through Sprint reviews and systems demonstrations. Also inspecting and adapting the backlog based on the outcome of these reviews.
  • Assisting release planning by providing continuous estimates, based on empirical evidence of execution of the backlog, for completion of backlog items.
  • Continuous and transparent communication of the scope, vision and backlog(s) to the stakeholders.
  • Maintain an awareness of, and complying with, the processes that affect their work and the work of those that are executing and consuming the backlog items. This awareness should be sufficient to make decisions on backlog items based on their process context (e.g. design, requirements, safety, verification and validation, etc.)
  • Active involvement in release train level ceremonies as requested (e.g. Plan review, PO Sync, Scrum of Scrums).
  • Ability to work fully autonomously.

  • Fluent in English with clear communication skills.

  • Strong understanding and experience of Agile & Scrum methodologies.

  • Knowledge and understanding of software engineering disciplines and practices.
  • Understanding and experience of the overall SDLC for application development.
  • Certified Product Owner.
