Brief

Release Train Engineer needed for a leading medical devices organisation based in Crawley who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Release Train Engineer that takes pride in their work.

The successful Release Train Engineer would desirably be educated to degree level, or equivalent professional/vocational qualification. The Release Train Engineer's (RTE) focus is to deliver value by managing programme level processes and execution against programme release goals. In this capability, the RTE is concerned with the long-term health and ability of the Agile Release Train (ART) to deliver value at a sustainable pace and foster a culture of continuous learning, self-inspection and improvement. They have a solid grasp of how to scale Lean and Agile practices and understand the unique opportunities and challenges associated with facilitating and continuously aligning a large programme.

What the role of the Release Train Engineer entails:

Some of the main duties of the Release Train Engineer will include:

• Work closely with functional management to highlight and help remove impediments impacting development teams
• Facilitate programme level ceremonies such as PI Planning, Inspect and Adapt workshops, Product Owner (PO) sync, System Demoss and Scrum of Scrum
• Escalate programme level risks and issues needing management attention
• Manage dependencies between delivery teams within or across various Release Trains
• Gather and report performance information (e.g. PI burn down data) and communicate metrics to ensure transparency on programme status
• Track and manage execution against programme release goals
• Ensure continuous communication between Product Owners and programme stakeholders including Product Managers and Subject Matter Experts
• Support setting and communication of programme priorities to teams
• Embody the Lean-Agile mindset and champion the values and goals of SAFe transformation
• Be transparent in all you do while being coachable yourself i.e. be open to feedback
• Challenge the status quo gracefully while working with others to bring all along for the change
• Provide visibility into gaps, issues, risks and opportunities across Agile teams, escalating where applicable and resolving where possible
• Aggregates and drives team Program Increment (PI) objectives into Programme / Release objectives to ensure alignment with business and successful delivery
• Mentor and coach to Agile Release Train (ARTs) on Agile/Lean/SAFe Principles
• Participates in enterprise programme management improvement and standardisation activities

What experience you need to be the successful Release Train Engineer:

• Significant experience as an RTE or Scrum Master
• Bachelor's degree in related discipline
• 3+ years of project experience in an agile environment
• Experience with CA Agile (Rally) desired
• SAFe SASM, RTE or other advanced certification preferred
• Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels
• Strong leadership and conflict resolution skills
• Experience in facilitation/moderation of large-scale events and workshops
• Successful track record with agile methodologies
• Experience in hardware engineering strongly preferred
• Proficient in MS Office and SharePoint
