Brief

Senior Commercial Officer needed for a leading defence engineering organisation based in Bristol who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Senior Commercial Officer that takes pride in their work.

The successful candidate would desirably have a relevant degree and a proven experience of team working in a commercial / contracts department, with a background within defence/military/engineering highly desirable.

As a Senior Commercial Officer you will deal with contracts, contract management and winning new business, taking responsibility for the associated contractual and commercial elements. You will work collaboratively with key functions of the assigned programme including Project Management, cost estimating, finance, procurement, engineering and technical as well as interfacing into UK Government (MoD) customers.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Senior Commercial Officer will include:

  • Managing allocated commercial contracts.
  • Executing bids up to the value of £5M
  • Managing and resolving customer queries and issues in areas of responsibility, escalating significant problems as appropriate.
  • Developing and maintaining customer relationships both internally and externally.
  • Delivering commercial support and guidance to other functions
  • Managing the implementation of procedures and controls within the specified area to ensure compliance with commercial policies
  • Managing the Bid Approval process for commercial elements
  • Proposing and reviewing complex terms and conditions to ensure that BAE SYSTEMS Business interests are protected
  • Providing advice and guidance to Supply Chain team to ensure appropriate flow-down of head contract terms and conditions
  • Drafting detailed Agreements including Purchase Orders, Enabling Agreements, Technical Assistance Agreements, Contracts, Sub-Contracts, amendments and Service Level Agreements.
  • Understanding the financial and pricing requirements of commercial contracts
  • Ability to plan and undertake basic negotiations
  • Proactively identify, manage and mitigate commercial risk.

What experience you need to be the successful Senior Commercial Officer:

Essentials:

  • Ability to communicate and present to all levels of the business and customer environment
  • Good and broad professional knowledge of commercial principles and practices
  • Business acumen to demonstrate an understanding of the balance of risk and reward in managing long term complex programmes
  • Proven ability to negotiate, prepare and issue sound business contracts
  • Experience of Team Working in a Commercial / Contracts department

Desirables:

  • Knowledge of MOD contracting practices
  • Awareness of Single Source Contract Regulations (SSCR) and AAR Criteria
  • Knowledge of ITAR and export controls
