Simulation and Modelling Engineer

Brief

Simulation and Modelling Engineer needed for a multinational Defence & Aerospace organisation based in Dorset who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Simulation and Modelling Engineer that takes pride in their work with an in-depth knowledge of experience using Ansys Fluent in a post graduate or industry environment, experience modelling rotating machinery e.g. pumps, ram air turbines, etc. in Ansys and has a desire to learn and develop.

What the role entails:

Some of the main duties of the Simulation and Modelling Engineer will include:

  • Modelling of products at all stages of the life cycle from concept through to in-service.
  • First principle hand calculations up to complex cosimulations of multiple integrated systems.
  • Real-time, hardware-in-the-loop and software-in-the-loop modelling.
  • Integration with customer and supplier models.
  • Component, system, ground and flight test support.
  • Detailed analysis of large data sets to confirm performance, validate models and solve problems.

What experience you need to be the successful Simulation and Modelling Engineer:

  • A Phd in Aerodynamics or similar Aerospace/Physics discipline OR a Masters in the same fields with several years industry experience is expected
  • Experience using Ansys Fluent in a post graduate or industry environment is expected.
  • Experience modelling rotating machinery e.g. pumps, ram air turbines, etc. in Ansys.
  • Experience modelling bluff body and transient external aerodynamics in Ansys.
  • Experience modelling high-speed short-duration dynamics of pneumatic systems with Dytran, LS Dyna or another tool - desirable.
  • Experience modelling impact dynamics such as bird strike, crash tests or drop tests with Dytran, LS Dyna or another tool - desirable.
  • A strong understanding of engineering subjects including solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, control theory and aerodynamics.
  • The ability to understand and analyse complex technical problems.
  • Drive and enthusiasm.
  • Self-motivation and problem-solving ability with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, reporting and presentation skills.
  • A desire to learn and develop.
