Brief
Software Engineer needed for a multinational defence & engineering organisation based in Yeovil who are looking to employ an experienced and well-rounded Software Engineer with an in-depth knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and be able to apply good software management practices to their work.
The successful candidate would desirably have a degree level qualification (or equivalent experience) in STEM subject (Engineering, Physics, Maths, Science).
If you have experience within defence, maritime or aerospace that would be a plus!
What the role entails:
Some of the main duties of the Software Engineer will include:
- Designing technical solutions and providing software development and testing of those solutions
- Adherence to project processes and software development practices
- Supporting system test and integration activities
- Producing technical documentation
- Generating and managing of requirements
- Estimating and reporting progress
- Leading a moderate sized team of software developers and being responsible for the required deliverables
- Planning, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing work of the team
- Liaising with multiple stakeholders and reporting on progress
- Coaching more junior staff in software development, and leading a team of software developers, while being responsible for the required deliverables
What experience you need to be the successful Software Engineer:
Essential:
- Experience of the software development lifecycle and processes (e.g. design, coding, unit testing), and tools (e.g. UML design tools, code IDEs)
- Experience with desktop-based applications such as C#,C++ or Java
Desirable:
- Windows or Linux O/S
- Object-oriented design/development including UML, SysML or XML
- Previous coaching and team leadership experience will be required for a higher level Software Developer positions
